A Civilian Again

This weekend I had a National Guard drill, just like I've been doing every month for the past seven years. This difference is, this was my last one. I'll officially be out of the Guard on January 30th.

I originally joined mainly because I thought having military service on my resume would help me get hired as a cop. I didn't realize at the time that being in the Guard would interfere with getting and keeping a job in LE. Hopefully being out from under the threat of deployment will help in my job search.

I've served as an enlisted soldier and an officer, and I spent 11 months in Iraq (plus another seven away from my wife for "training"

). While I'm proud of my service, I've never really enjoyed it. The Army in general, and the National Guard specifically has gone way downhill since I've joined.

I'm really looking forward to completely controlling my own life. It's been a long time since I could do that.
