Welcome to newest members???
Is is just me or does anyone else pay attention to the usernames in the "welcome to our newest members" area and wonder what are they going to contribute? (No pun intended with the newest one.
)???
What are they thinking with these names they come up with??? Anyone else know what I talking about?
Edit to add: whatever they're contributing....I don't want it.Last edited by cwtlady; 01-10-07 at 12:08 PM.

Since it changes frequently, I'd have to say no, I haven't a clue what you're talking about.
Hopefully you didn't just insult someone with a perfectly legitimate user name.Molly Weasley makes Chuck Norris eat his vegetables.

So what was the questionable name?
Right now it's "Nikkytas," which doesn't seem particularly weird to me."I'm not a coward,

While I do pay attention, I try really hard not to judge. It's difficult to base character on a username. On the other hand, in the forum world posts can make or break you. The newest member is VIPshemale. We shall see...

I sometimes glance at the names and I see an odd one once and awhile and wonder what the jumble of letters or the name means. I don't judge the person though, I mean no offense to you but seeing a name like "isthatlegal" down there would make me think right off the bat that you're some weirdo coming here to try and complain about the police brutality you "think" has occurred against you, but obviously isn't the case.

I clicked on the name and got this message

OFK, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Sorry for the confusion guys. I must be one of a few that thinks that way. I never intended to insult anyone.
My bad.
The name was referring to body fluids which could be taken in a sexual way and that's what it was referring to. My email address has been getting a lot of porn messages lately so I was thinking that this was a porn/spam problem.
I was just wondering if anyone else looks at the newest member feature like I do. They seem to disappear after a while never to be heard from again. Where do they go???
Sorry if I caused a problem. I'll get my mind out of the gutter.

I wonder if the stranger names are just moderators in disguise, trying to see if we're paying attention.

New member appears to be from Russia.
All new members must be cleared by admin before their info is posted.
If admin doesn’t pass them they just go away.

PhoenixRose had a post just before Christmas that asked "What does it mean?" A lot of people responded, explaining there username, and the thought behind it. I thought it was an interesting read.

I'm a member at another site, but never post there. I lurked there for a long time as a guest, but I finally registered so that I could look at profiles and that sort of thing. There are a lot of forum features that aren't available to guests. If anyone had noticed my name when I first joined, they might wonder where I went. I didn't go anywhere, I just don't have anything to contribute to that particular site (whether or not I contribute at this site is open for debate
).
Some of the new names here are probably doing the same thing I did at the other site."I'm not a coward,
I've just never been tested
I'd like to think that if I was,
I would pass"

New members are verified and checked before coming here and being able to post. If any of you see a name or profile that is clearly not right, as in a user name with some sexual innuendoes or a name like "BuyViagra" crap and it happened to get through our wonderfully accurate and capable authorization process,
then PM me or any other mod. We want to be open to all people but some are here solely to spam and incense this place...
Once a member is banned we have ways of telling if a new prospective member is a banned one, we can tell you our secrets though..
We try to verify all users before being able to post but some might get through.
As far as your getting spam-sexual e-mails at home, update your anti-virus and firewall. I dont think it has anything to do with here...A monday morning lunatic, disturbed from time to time. Temporary catatonic madman on occasion..

The views and comments of E-man are mine and mine alone and therefore might not reflect the views of others or people in my current department. As such since this is still America I can post what I want without fear of retribution. I think.
