What's the world's busiest airport?
Atlanta's Hartsfield International is said to be the world's busiest airport. And, I can vouch for this, as it seems everyone of those flights fly directly over the top of my house.
I live 17-18 miles from the end of the EW runway and planes are taking off, landing or in a holding pattern 24 hours a day 365 days a year. At first the constant jet roar was annoying as all get-out and kept me awake nights, but now I've grown accustomed to their song.

On occasions when the airport is shutdown (weather, accident closing a runway for a period, whatever) does the quiet wake you up now?
I still find it strange I wake up the instant the power goes off, but I can sleep through a fire alarm.

I used to live at least 20 miles from RDU, but the airport noise still sounded like a tornado on nights the wind was blowing towards my house. I'm a long way from an airport now, so going home to visit my parents is funny when I heard jet engines powering up. I used to not even notice them. Now I'm getting used to the train whistles as they blow through the road crossing up the street.

Offutt AFB is just down the highway. And oddly enough, I've become accustomed to hearing jets flying over every 15 minutes or so. It's the air show every summer that gets to me......

Trains couple at the end of my block, when I first moved here I thought it sounded like an angry dinosaur stomping around and now I don't even hear it. Don't get a lot of low overhead planes or helicopters unless there's training excercises going on (once every couple years or so) but the earthquake a few years ago got my attention. It sounded like a low flying jet that got stuck over my house for a minute or so.
