HD/TV/Satellite Questions
Just curious what you all use for your viewing pleasures

We have the HD box with Directv and a separate TIVO box upstairs. Debating on getting the newer HD TIVO and replacing the HD box we have now cuz it is a POS. I have heard rumors that they are getting rid of TIVO in near future. Anyone else hear that? Also wondering if it would be better to just invest in an antenna for house, but don't think it picks up the HD channels, does it??
Would love to rid of this Directv bill, BUT....my husband does enjoy his NHL channel during hockey season.**********************

I've got Directv and actually rather like it. It's nowhere near as expensive as cable is here and doesn't go out everytime someone bumps a tree. We're looking at getting a DVR. Don't want to pay extra fees for a TiVO, you know?

I hear ya, Ducky. Have to pay for every box and we have 5 *sigh*
Thinking of that HD TIVO, but a friend of mine has one and said if you are taping something, and switch to watch a HD channel, it screws up the taping and shows all the pixels.....i guess Directv is working on that....has something to do with TIVO not able to record in HD yet........I dunno.**********************

Actually for your network programming going OTA (over the air) is going to give you the best signal. Don't take that antenna down yet, and if you did, put it back up - it most certainly does work to get HD signals.
Do to the nature of the various distribution methods, OTA is about the only place you'll get true unadulterated HDTV at this point. The satellite channels are usually pretty good and digital cable fares from ok to offensive. There are a lot of games being played at this point and just true enough to avoid lawsuit claims being made. For example, while 480P is part of the HD spec, to call something 480P HD is an outright lie - but it is technically "HD programming".

Anyway, yeah, the antenna is good to use for networks. Assuming your DirectTV box and/or the TV itself have a HD OTA tuner.

Like BEB said, the HD signal I get from the cable company is barely in the realm of HD. It's obnoxious, but not a lot I can do about it except complain.
Tivo, on the other hand, is awesome

I have Cox cable with DVR.
Would love to do the DirectTV thing, but landlord says no! He says no to everything! Can't even have a dog!
Hate the landlord; love the house.

Why would landlord care who you get TV service from?? You have to pay for it, not him, right??

i would kinda like a dish as well. I have Comcast cable, and even though it has its moments, it frequently gives me problems. Id like to upgrade to a DVR box, at least, but dont want to pay the charges...
