Now there's a nice depressing topic. Why can't you just go back to telling lawyer jokes?
My mother died of cancer when she was only 56. I also knew several friends' parents and grandparents who died of cancer. It's a horrible way to die, and I would probably kill myself before the final, most debilitating stages if I ever get a terminal case of it. I'm just hoping the euthanasia-friendly policymakers take over the country by the time I get old, so that I'll be able to tell my friends in advance rather than jumping off a bridge when they're not looking.
On the other hand, I'm grateful to be living in an era and situation where most people I know who died have died of cancer at an older age, rather than of infectious diseases, malnutrition, and war in childhood and youth as was the case for most people in the past, and still in some places today.Last edited by Jenna; 01-23-07 at 12:41 PM.

My dad died of small cell cancer in 1993 he was only 50yrs old. It was in his lungs and extremely hard to detect, but once it started spreading, it was like wild fire, very rapid. Yes, unfortunately he did smoke. As Jenna said it was very debilitating.
It was really strange because my parents divorced when I was 3 and my grandmother practically raised me all my life. So I really wasn't close with my father until my early adulthood. Just when I was getting to know him, not long afterward he died. He came from a family of 12 siblings. They all died of some form of cancer by the age of 50 except two of them.
He had an aunt that kept up with the family history and stuff she said that his great great grandfather was in the civil war and his job was to feed ammo into the guns. He got very sick after the war, and she thinks it was all attributed to that is some way. I dunno?
My half sister was diagnosed with cervical cancer when she was 21 and they were able to get it all, and she is in her 50's now, but she is not a blood child of my father's.
Weird topic ...

My cousin was diagnosed with bone cancer when she was about 11...they were able to save her leg, but she had to have her knee joint replaced with a titanium implant. She's now in her 20's and has stayed in remission.
I know several women who have been treated for breast cancer, my mother's best friend is currently going thru radiation.
My former brother-in-law died of esophageal cancer 2 years ago...worrisome, as reflux runs in my Ex's family, and that is often a precursor.Molly Weasley makes Chuck Norris eat his vegetables.

Awww, if it's for that shave-your-head-bald-for-cancer-research charity, why couldn't he have done a nice, fun "Do you want to see Reca bald" poll instead of a scary, depressing one like this? Way to keep us all in suspense, Reca!

No Big Deal My point was still made by the poll.
Cancer is a disease that affects almost everyone. It is a very depressing disease. It is VERY depressing when it attacks Children. Later on today I will be posting how you can help fight childhood cancer. If everyone on this site gave one dollar that would be over 2000 that would go directly 100% toward childhood cancer research.

My grandmother died of lung cancer, she worked at Sunline which produce Sweet Tarts and the coating on the outside of the candy in the powder form was proven to cause cancer.

My godfather and my father in law both died of it. Someone I consider a second mother is a breast cancer survivor.
