Goddamn Stupid @#$%ing Co-worker
So I work with an idiot. This guy has lived in the US well over 10 years, but he still barely speaks English. He barely knows his own job, and I frequently have to cover for him because he's too stupid to prioritize what needs to be done first.
Today, he was loading a truck. Loading big trucks like this takes about an hour. During this time, he didn't think about letting one of the rest of us know that something was wrong.
After the truck left, he comes over to the shop with a shit-eating grin on his face and tells us, "de truck driver, mucho borracho." He takes us outside and shows us the tire tracks in the mud where the driver came within about two inches of hitting our scale house, and the place where he ran over a drain pipe that was out in plain sight.
By this time, there's no way to catch the driver and follow him until he could be stopped. And I know from volunteering with the State Police that they don't have the manpower to search for the guy, especially since we didn't know where he was going.
So right now, because this guy was too stupid to stop the driver from leaving, there's an 80,000 pound truck with a drunk driver endangering everyone else on the road.
And in case you're wondering, no, my boss won't do anything about it.

You guys don't use bills of lading? Wouldn't they have the trucking company or broker listed? Who does your dispatching? Somebody must know who's driving that 80,000 lb truck. And where it was going, lots of trucking companies use GPS tracking now.

How did this guy know the driver was drunk? Maybe he just made the comment because the driver almost hit the scale house. Why don't you call the drivers comany and tell them yourself. And who cares about the state police I'm sure the city or county would have a much better response time.

Like jmur and chris said, stop covering for the @#$%ing co-worker. Sooner or later, it's gonna catch up with you and the boss. Speaking of the boss, has he never heard of liability?

First of all, I what I meant when I said "covering" was that he fails to prioritize his own tasks, and so he ends up getting busier than he should. And when I talk about busy, it usually means trucks waiting to be loaded.
For you LEOs, think about a lazy officer who hides in the office taking three hours do do a half-hour report. And while he's hiding, you end up taking calls in his zone. Your Sergeant isn't going to let you get away with refusing to answer calls, and my boss isn't going to let me get away with not helping out when things get busy. I wish my boss would just fire the idiot, but that's not going to happen.
The good news is that my boss did take the incident more seriously than I expected. He called the trucking company. It turns out, the driver wasn't drunk. He has a speech impediment that makes him sound drunk, and he's a horrible driver by nature. The day my boss called, the company told him that that driver was due in court that day because he had run over a traffic light or something."I'm not a coward,
I've just never been tested
I'd like to think that if I was,
I would pass"

Sounds like the trucking company needs to take their jobs more seriously and get this guy off the road. The speech issue has nothing to do with his driving. But the way he drives does have something to do wth putting a lot of lives in danger. He is driving a big freaking truck.
