How come kids don't drink Bud?

How come kids can't drink Budweiser, when they're allowed to drink Coca Cola and other caffein loaded soft drinks til it runs out their ears? Don't get me wrong, as I don't approve of kids drinking beer or any other drink containing alcohol. Personally, I can't go the taste of beer, wine or booze and quit drinking when I was in the military.
However, one Coke, Blast, Vault, Full Throttle, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, etc. to a 45-50 pound kid is like 3 or 4 to the average adult and a lot of adults and kids are hooked on caffeine, which is more of a stimulant than alcohol.
With these caffeine loaded vending machines setting on school grounds and every where a kid goes, it's no wonder many have the jitters and have trouble sleeping nights.
IMO, a lot of the hyperactivity parents and teachers are so concerned about in kids today, is caused by too much caffeine from soft drinks.

I can see how a parent might be concerned about their child's caffeine intake, but it certainly doesn't need any government regulation.

How many Mountain Dews would one have to drink to make a person too impaired to drive a car?

Alcohol is a depressant. Caffeine is a gift from the gods. Don't touch it, and I won't be forced to maim you.

+ a LOT! Don't even think about looking at me in the morning before I've had my coffee. The safest way to wake me up is by bringing me cappuccino with biscotti.

Besides the fact that Budweiser is horse piss, I dunno. My kids get soda once in a great while, and when they do they get sprite or 7-up.

From what I understand, most kids that are hyperactive as in AD/HD, stimulants have the reverse effect and actually calms them.

I can vouch for that. All of the kids that I have counseled that had ADD or ADHD, the best way to get them to focus for short term was slip them some sugar or caffeine. Also a great way to find out if they don't actually have ADD/ADHD.

    Children and Adolescents
According to pediatricians, children and adolescents are some of the most targeted groups for caffeine addiction. On a body-weight basis, 1-5 year-olds are the highest consumers of caffeine. A child who drinks one can of soda per day is getting the equivalent of four cups of coffee for an adult. One third of all the children who drink high levels of caffeinated beverages show hyperactive behavior which is typical of caffeinism. No wonder pediatricians are concerned about the growing number of soda-guzzling youngsters and adolescents who come in with irritability, headache, and nervousness.

Not directly, but you mentioned the fact that kids aren't allowed to drink Bud. That is a government regulation, not necessarily a parental decision. The reason a legal drinking age is appropriate is because the abuse of alcohol can have a direct effect on society.

I don't think the abuse of caffeine, by kids or adults, can have any effect on society. Therefore, it should not be regulated like alcohol is. Now if you want to keep your own kids off caffeine, go right ahead. If somebody else wants to give their kids 12 cups of coffee before school, I don't have a problem with it.

Which is why a lot of schools I know are getting rid of their pop machines (except in the teacher's lounge, lol) or shutting them off during school hours and only allowing the pop to be bought after school.

You are right. Drugs to keep ADHD kids under control such as Ritalin are actually stimulants. They've been using Ritalin for quite a few years now, but they still don't know the exact reason that it works. However, they did find that the stimulant works to stimulate the brain to complete the task at hand. From what I remember it has something to do with stimulating interest in the child.

Caffeine in high doses for children is not good. I'm at a public school one day every week with 2nd graders. One little boy in my class has so much as a doughnut in the morning and he bounces off walls all day... But as for me, I need a proper dosage of it to get myself going in the morning.

I think that alcohol should be legal at the age of 16 and driving should be restricted till the age of 21. There was a study done about kids and sugar and found that sugar had no effect on how hyper the kids got. I think that ADD or ADHD is a crock. Parents and teachers are getting to lazy to deal with kids being kids. People want the children to be like zombies and do what they are told but one must raise the children properly. I dont want to rant about ritilan and how bad it is. so as for beer let the kids drink themselfs silly they already are
