Rosetta Stone
Anybody used this software, or know somebody who's used it? I've been thinking about improving my Spanish (since the government won't lift a finger to keep illegals out), but the software is expensive. I'd like to know it's a good product before I spend the money.

I've actually seen the Rosetta Stone in person in London, not that exciting.
Besides that ya have no clue about the language software.
There’s a promise I need you to make
While I’m gone you take care of the love
And I’ll deal with the hate.
Don’t worry about me; I’ll be all right
Just care for your children and sleep tight
I’ll keep you safe on my watch tonight

Any good course is going to cost a couple of hundred bucks. Pimsleur is 275 or so. Berlitz is expensive too. It is cheaper to find an adult education class in your local area. The local community college may have one or your local community center.

I bought "Spanish for Gringos" for my dad for Christmas, and he said that it is decent, and a fairly easy format to learn with, if you want a limited ability to understand and speak spanish. Book and CD for less than $30 online.

I have had a few friends tell me that getting some spanish audio tapes work really well.

Supposedly the State Department uses that program - it has the reputation of being the best software/audio way to learn, but nothing beats going to class where a native speaker can beat the language into you and correct your mistakes.

I do not speak Spanish in any real capacity... I know how to be polite, and I can insult with the best of them. I speak what I speak with a Castillian accent and tend to prefer that for the insults. I much prefer German, Gaelic or some other Celtic/Teutonic language.

If you can't beat'em, join 'em!
you can beat them and the harder you hit the more english you get.
it is good to learn the language of the criminal element so you can be more productive at your job.

Actually, Jenna, I have no interest in pandering to a bunch of foreign invaders. I work with several Mexicans who have been here long enough to be fluent in English, but their English is pathetic. I won't use what Spanish I do know with them.
I want to learn Spanish to make myself more marketable as a cop. I wouldn't use it off-duty, unless I was in a Spanish speaking country."I'm not a coward,

I learned a long time ago that to learn a foreign language, you need a "Bedroom Dictionary." It makes learning any language (or for that matter anything) a lot more fun.

With the high prices of the spanish language software, I'll just keep reading this thread and learn from you guys.

The way I look at it, this is America, you should not have to learn Spanish!
