The policy implimented after 9/11 was that the Speaker be flown directly (non-stop) to their home city...since they're number 4 in line (I believe) for the Presidency.
Dennis Hastert received the same courtesy - he just didn't have to fly as far.
If even Tony Snow, the Press Secretary for the President, comes out and says this is a non-starter issue - why keep winding the monkey?
