Just trying to give back a little...

...of what you give to us. So... the next time someone waves and smiles at you it's because your smile and wave meant so much to them.

...and the next time someone takes the time to come to the police department just to say thank you it's because you took your time and spent it with them to make sure they were alright.

...and the next time someone wants to buy you a cup of coffee it's because you took your hard earned money and spent it on someone who's name you've long forgotten.

...and the next time someone makes the effort to write a note of thanks it's because your words or act of kindness meant so much to them.

...and the next time someone brings in a plate of cookies its because you deserve to be treated special because you are special to us and we just want to give back to you what you often forget you've given to us.

    ****************************** ******************
This is in response to a police officer who made me cry today. He wondered what police officers do that makes them worthy of what he would consider "special treatment". I think he was wondering why would anyone want to do something nice for an officer if they weren't expecting something in return. To me, that's sad.

Some of us don't want anything in return...except that you stay safe and retire near by so we can continue to keep an eye on you.

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.

Just wanted to say thank you. Appreciation from decent folks like you will keep us going longer than you can imagine. Its what makes this job worthwhile, actually.

With all the hurt and dispair that we see in our lengthy careers, it truly is an awesome feeling when we see appreciation like this from folks. It truly does mean something to us, more than some can imagine. Again thanks and stay safe all.

There used to be an elderly lady who lived in Chris2001's neighborhood and she was known as the "Cookie Lady". Each year around Christmas she would bake tons of cookies, bag them up, and deliver them all over the the state to troopers. She was a little goofy but she loved law enforcement. She died about 2-3 years ago and had stopped her cookie deliverys prior to her death.

She could be a pain in the ass,, because if she saw you on a traffic stop she would pull up behind you in her red Ford pickup just to come see if she knew you.

Bless her heart for her good intentions. It was nice of some of the local troopers to attend her funeral when she died.

We have to treasure the small victories in life. So many times we will see tragedy and despair throughout our careers but we are not without hope. Don't ever let go of the little "cookies" in life, they keep you from becoming too jaded with the world and serve as a reminder that sometimes this world can be alright.
