Question Anyone else have a Motorola camera phone?

I got a new motorola camera phone yesterday and was curious how the hell you get your pics you take off your phone onto your computer? I did a little googling and it said something about having to get some program or something for my computer.

Just curious if anyone had any input on it.

    Thanks!

I used to use a motorola, but it sucked. But anyway, what I did to transfer photos was e-mail them to myself. If I remember right, the way I did it was to open up the photo I wanted to send, then selected to send it as a message from the options menu. From there I believe I selected 'send as an e-mail.' Just put in your e-mail address and you should be good to go.

Alternatively, if your phone has bluetooth, you could use it to either transfer to your computer (if your computer has bluetooth) or maybe to someone else's phone who can move the photos for you in case the first option doesn't work. Those are a couple ways, anyway. Good luck!

When I had a Nextel I860 I used a data cable and the Motorola Media Downloader program which you can get free at idenphones.com (i think thats the site)
My new I580 has a micro sd card that I pop in my computer

Autumn, if it's something like a Razr, you can transfer images wirelessly via Bluetooth. That way there's no cables. It has a range of a few dozen feet.

You can buy a Bluetooth dongle (a little transmitter/receiver) that plugs into your computer's USB port, and it usually has software drivers that set up a "Bluetooth Info" item under My Computer. It acts like a file folder that you can copy & paste files from.

If your phone has a micro SD memory card, the card will show up as a separate directory from the built-in camera phone memory.

I first got a cheap $5 Bluetooth dongle off of eBay, which had software that sucked and never would work with my phone... So I went back to CompUSA and got a LinkSys Bluetooth dongle - It cost like $59 but it worked.

To make the first connection, you have to set your phone as "discoverable" or "Find Me", otherwise the dongle software won't be able to make the first connection.

It is also possible to use the phone as a modem to connect to the Internet thru the cell phone network's internet service, but you probably don't want to do that (it's expensive and slow) - So if the setup software starts asking you questions about the cell phone's phone number and comm ports, that's what it's trying to do - just abort out of that setup.

There's a software package called "Motorola Phone Tools" that allows you to edit your address book and stuff like that on your computer. It has an optional USB cable. I've had problems with its address book function but eventually got it working, although it still treats updates like new contact entries, which is infuriorating. It also has a file transfer function in its "Multimedia studio" which works fine to transfer images and movies, although the movie files are in some strange "3gp" format which only QuickTime seems to be able to play.

But I connect to it using Bluetooth

The other annoying thing is that the girl in the web site photo pops up everytime you open the software - If you ask me, she is unnaturally happy about using Motorola Phone Tools - I did not experience that level of thrills

Autumn, it's important to be smarter than the phone.

Just kidding. I also have a camera phone that is nearly useless to me.

No, the small end that plugs into your phone is probably special for your model of phone.

The advantage of Bluetooth is that if you have several models of phones with Bluetooth capability, you don't need a unique cable for each one, since it's wireless.

Also you can get Bluetooth ear peices (if your phone has Bluetooth capability), and go around appearing to be talking to yourself.

I have a bluetooth speaker in my car... If my phone rings, all I have to do is press the speaker button and start talking, although I hardly ever use it.

Well, I have a USB cable and it plugs into the end of my phone no problem. When I plug it into my computer it reads it but says there are no programs installed.

Hahah, ya I see people walking around "talking" to themselves all the time and I can't stand it.

Also, why the heck would you have multitudes of phones lol?

Maybe you just need the Motorola Phone Tools software then (they have a $39 download on the link I gave you). Maybe there's a cheaper way such as the one Vendetta was talking about, but I don't know.

My wife has another brand of phone - I tried to get her to upgrade to the same Motorola Razr model I had so everything would be compatiable, but she went & upgraded to a different brand entirely because she didn't like Motorola's color choices

Autumn, I've got a motorolla camera phone, and I just got a bluetooth adapter from www.newegg.com that works well. You can get them off of eBay too, just make sure they're plug and play. It's really easy and you don't have to worry about losing a cable. Basically, TxCharlie has it right.

Emailing them to yourself can cost a good bit if it's not part of your service package.

Another thing is that Sprint offers a $5/month online photo album package. I assume others do too.

However read the fine print... Somehow I got a $60 "data charge" last month, and I haven't figured out yet if it was because of my Internet browsing (which I did very little of on my cell phone), or uploading a couple of dozen photos and videos to the album.

Whichever it is, I thought it was included in my plan, but I guess not.
