Done your taxes yet? (TurboTax related tip)
This kind of crap makes me furious.
Seems TurboTax no longer works on Windows98 or WindowsME, but the box only says "Works with Windows or Mac". Now most of us probably left those in the dust years ago, but maybe this will help someone. Intuit no longer supports versions of Windows Microsoft no longer supports, and since Microsoft discontinued support for 98/ME last June this year's TurboTax requires XP/Vista (not sure about W2K).
Sorry if this seems completely off topic for this forum, but I figure everyone pays taxes and a lot use TurboTax. I'm catching up on tech podcasts and just heard about this. If too off topic please delete.

I always have to pay too. Last year wasn't at all bad, this year might be. I've always used TaxCut instead of TurboTax. I used both in 2001 and 2003 to compare (years TurboTax was free) and TaxCut always came up with a better result with the same data. Since H&R Block bought it from Kiplinger I'm wary of how long that will hold true though.

I got a big refund this year. We have a ton of stuff to deduct, plus that child tax credit is sweet.
I used turbo tax. It is easy and and got both state and federal refunds with in 2 weeks. The opinions given in my posts DO NOT reflect the opinions, views, policies, and/or procedures of my employing agency. They are my personal opinions only, thereby releasing my agency of any liability, or involvement in anything posted under the username "Beans" on LEF.

I hired a CPA last year, but we have gone back to doing it ourselves. Just easier to do it ourselves, plus cheaper.
We use Taxact which is half the cost of Turbotax.
I'm not sure if it works on Win98 or Windows ME, but it does have home and business.

Getting a huge refund this year. Of course, that is because my wife was unemployed last year. She got a really good job in January so April 08 will be quite the reckoning. All things being equal, I would rather have her making money and have to pay Uncle Sugar rather than how we did it last year. Not a comfortable financial situation.

A Smile
A smile cost nothing, but gives so much.
It enriches those who receive it,without making poorer those who give.It takes but a moment, but the memoryof it sometimes lasts forever.
None is so rich or mighty that hecan get along without it,and none is so poor but thathe can be made rich by it.
A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters goodwill in business, and is the countersign of friendship.
It brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad,and it is nature's best antidote for trouble.
Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed,or stolen, for it is something that is of novalue to anyone until it is given away.
Some people are too tired to give you a smile.Give them one of yours, as none needs a smileso much as he who has no more to give.

I did mine the first week of February. Got my refund in 5 days. I used www.taxslayer.com and it only cost $9.99 to file.
