In a move that Jenna applauds...Captain America is dead at 66

Comic book hero Captain America dies Wed Mar 7, 8:52 AM ET

NEW YORK - Captain America has undertaken his last mission at least for now. The venerable superhero is killed in the issue of his namesake comic that hit stands Wednesday, the Daily News reported.

On the new edition's pages, a sniper shoots down the shield-wielding hero as he leaves a courthouse, according to the newspaper.

It ends a long run for the stars-and-stripes-wearing character, created in 1941 to incarnate patriotic feeling during World War II. Over the years, an estimated 210 million copies of "Captain America" comic books, published by New York-based Marvel Entertainment Inc., have been sold in a total of 75 countries.

But resurrections are not unknown in the world of comics, and Marvel Entertainment editor in chief Joe Quesada said a Captain America comeback wasn't impossible.

Still, the character's death came as a blow to co-creator Joe Simon.

"We really need him now," said Simon, 93, who worked with artist Jack Kirby to devise Captain America as a foe for Adolf Hitler.

According to the comic, the superhero was spawned when a scrawny arts student named Steve Rogers, ineligible for the army because of his poor health but eager to serve his country, agreed to a "Super Soldier Serum" injection. The substance made him a paragon of physical perfection, armed only with his shield, his strength, his smarts and a command of martial arts.

In the comic-book universe, death is not always final. But even if Captain America turns out to have met his end in print, he may not disappear entirely: Marvel has said it is developing a Captain America movie.

"Somewhere a True Believer is training to kill you.
He is training with minimum food or water, in austere conditions, day and night.
The only thing clean on him is his weapon.
He doesn't worry about what workout to do---his rucksack weighs what it weighs, and he runs until the enemy stops chasing him.
The True Believer doesn't care "how hard it is"; he knows he either wins or he dies.
He doesn't go home at 1700; he is home.
    He knows only the Cause.
    Now, who wants to quit?"

That's so dumb. Why does every writer feel they need to kill their character to have a successful story?

Well hes been around for quite some time. I am suprised that he hasnt passed his shield off to a younger America and left him as more of a consultant role.

Here is the article on from the Bugle

Daily Bugle: Captain America shot and killed

Living legend assassinated on steps of Federal Courthouse

    By The Daily Bugle Staff

Earlier today, we reported on the attempted assassination of a former superhero. We can now confirm that the victim has been identified as Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America. Rogers was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital due to injuries suffered from multiple gunshot wounds to the shoulder, chest and stomach.

Eyewitness reports claim that the initial bullet, tagging Rogers in the shoulder, came from a sniper perched atop or in one of the buildings adjacent to the Federal Courthouse. Several other shots were fired during the ensuing commotion--hitting Rogers in the chest and stomach--but witnesses fleeing the scene, as well as the U.S. Marshals who were escorting Rogers, have stated there was only one sniper shot fired.

The identity of the assassin(s), as well as the origin of the other shots, have not yet been revealed. Agents from S.H.I.E.L.D., the FBI and local police are working together on the investigation and have begun combing the buildings in the area. A S.H.I.E.L.D. spokesperson declined to comment on the shooting, and stressed that few details regarding the investigation would be available while it's being conducted.

Rogers, a veteran of World War II, thought lost during the close of those hostilities, returned to action decades later and was instrumental in the early days of the Avengers. He had been at the forefront of American superheroics until recently when he openly and violently opposed the U.S. government's Superhero Registration Act. As Captain America, Rogers battled pro-Registration forces last week in Manhattan until surrendering himself to S.H.I.E.L.D. custody. He was on his way to his arraignment when he was struck down earlier today.

Rogers has never been married and has no known living relatives.

Have no fear; LT. California will be stepping up to fill the Captains shoes.

Well kind of; the LT likes the look of Wonder Woman, but the boots will be thigh high with 5-inch heels and the top part will be a little more subdued.
He is just waiting for important impute from Britney and Paris for information on his backups the Bimbo Squad.
