I'd like to take a minute to give Countybear a well deserved pat on the back here in the forum.
Countybear was asked, at almost the 11th hour, to assist our team with a high profile hostage operation at one of our chemical plants.
With little training and no actual hands on experience Countbear gained the release of one "hostage" and occupied the "suspect" until our team was in position to breach. The other "hostage" was secured and the "hostage taker" was neutralized. (He gained a third eye socket) The plant admin seemed quite pleased.
There were a few communication problems that had to be dealt with, and the plant admin gave Countybear to many things to do that were not his job. Despite that the team was generally pleased with the way Countbear handled the situation.
Countybear has since been offered an active team postion. If he accepts, which I think he will, Countybear will be the first assigned team member for Hostage Negotiations. Job well done.

Nicely done, Countybear. With your posts I'd wondered how long before you became an author. Seems your talents are needed elsewhere for the time being.

Well done that man.

(Mind you if they'll take you, perhaps I should move to the US and come out of retirement?).

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion

Well I tried to inject a modicum of 'manliness', but seem to have failed.

From the quotes I take it this was an exercise?
Nice work Countybear!

Thanks all. Very kind of you.
Yes, it was an exercise, carried out under the guidance of third-party evaluators and a SWAT specialist.
What lewis fails to mention is that the tactical entry team functioned flawlessly in the face of a number of challenges. They were the real heroes of the day. Their training, professionalism, and dedication makes the job I did very small by comparison.

Congrats man, even though it was an excercise it sounds as though you did a job well done had it been for real. Let us know if and when you take the position.

How do they pick who gets to play the "hostage taker"--does that role go to the cop who wrote the fewest tickets last month?
