I don't normally talk about how my applications are going, because I often have several going at one time and so far at least, they haven't ever ended well.
But today I got a letter that I just can't help sharing with everyone.
The following are your scores and rank:
Written exam (results from PST.com)(weighted 40%
....85.95%
Oral board interview (weighted 60%).......................... 90%
Final combined (Written/Interview) Score.....................97 (includes 10% Veterans Preference)
Deputy Sheriff Eligibility List Rank.......................... ......1
I still have to pass the background, poly, pysch, and medical, so it's nowhere near a sure-thing. But I've never been told that I'm #1 on anyone's eligibility list before, so it's pretty cool to get this letter."I'm not a coward,

500 fights, that's the number I figured when I was a kid. 500 street fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate tough guy. You need them for experience. To develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then, after, you realize that's what you are.
