    Tax his tractor,
    Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes Are the rule.
    Tax his cow,
    Tax his goat,
    Tax his pants,
    Tax his coat.
    Tax his ties,
    Tax his shirt,
    Tax his work,
    Tax his dirt.
    Tax his tobacco,
    Tax his drink,
Tax him if he Tries to think.
    Tax his cigars,
    Tax his beers,
If he cries, then Tax his tears.
    Tax his car,
    Tax his gas,
Find other ways To tax his ass
    Tax all he has
    Then let him know
    That you won't be done
    Till he has no dough.
    When he screams and hollers,
    Then tax him some more,
Tax him till He's good and sore.
    Then tax his coffin ,
    Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in Which he's laid.
    Put these words
    upon his tomb,
" Taxes drove me to my doom..."
    When he's gone,
    Do not relax,
Its time to apply The inheritance tax.

    Can you spell "politicians!"
    And I still have to"press 1"for English.

Just because your sign off after you're shift is done, doesn't mean that it's over and put blinders on. You're a cop 24/7 wether you like it or not. If thats something you can't handle, you should find a new line of work!

Rhino likes the so called "Fair Tax".

This is the tax which would make everyone a government "prebate" check subject and wouldn't address spending. In fact it'd help disguise spending. Otherwise its great, I suppose.

I don't think you fully understand. Read the book, it should clear up a lot of misconceptions you may have.

True, haven't read the book. Is the plan presented there different than in the bill the "Fair Tax Act of 2005"? That's the version I'm most familiar with.

Problems with latter described in this article.

    This thread is, well... 'taxing'.

Man, the guy that wrote that article is obviously going off what other people told him the Fair Tax was, and not on the text of the Tax itself. He is wrong about so many things. I highly recommend you read the Fair Tax book. If you don't want to pay money for it, I'm sure your local library will have a copy. So please read it- I read the book in about a day and a half.

I'm not going to dissect the article you posted and correct the author on everything, but a couple of points of contention I want to bring up as an example of how wrong he is:

"The Fair Tax would be applied on top of sales taxes already."
This is partly true. The Fair Tax will not override any state or local sales taxes, so unless your local governments change, those aren't going anywhere. What the Fair Tax will eliminate is the embedded taxes that come with those products.

For example. Let's say you buy a Widget for $100. 28% of that price is calculated based on embedded taxes. The taxes the merchant has to pay for shipping, receiving, business license, taxes on the materials, overseas shipping, etc. All these things are factored in when calculating the price of a product.

The Fair Tax eliminates those taxes, so the price of the Widget would go down. Why? Because people buy from the merchant who has the best prices. It's capitalism, baby.

Now enter the Fair Tax. Add back 23% on the Widget. If you have been able to follow me so far, that means that under the Fair Tax, a Widget that costs $100 now, could cost $95 under the Fair Tax.

Another point I want to contend is "The Fair Tax is a consumption tax."

It is not. It is a sales tax added to non-essential goods. Milk, bread, soup, etc, will not be taxed. That's why you get a month rebate. A poor family who spends most of it's income on essential items are, of course, going to get more money back than a family that spends it's money on new cars, TVs, Video games, etc. It doesn't mean it's a progressive tax- it means it's being fair.

Many people fear change. But I think the biggest change this country needs- that can occur in our lifetime- is the abolishment of the IRS. It's the most unconstitutional entity we have in this country, and it's dangerous. I promise you, if you don't put this demon down now, it will be the undoing of our country. It won't be long before we have all our freedoms threatened in the name of the IRS.

One more thing: Under the IRS now, only 42% of the population pays income taxes. That means only 42% of the population is being taxed. Those of that work, are having to make up for the ones that choose not to (or are working illegally). Under the Fair Tax- 100% of the people pay. More people paying means they pay less. So over time, the Fair Tax could conceivably go down over the years.

Go grab your last pay stub. Look at the "Total Gross" pay. That's what you made. Now look at what you actually go put on your paycheck. Sad, isn't it? Under the Fair Tax, that "Total Gross" is what you would be taking home. How can you say "no" to that?

Fair enough Rhino, I'll give the book a read. I checked at the library, but they didn't have a copy (they did have a new biography of Locke that should keep me busy for awhile though). Tomorrow I'll pick one up at the bookstore.

not to mention the government savings by completely disbanding the IRS!!
500 fights, that's the number I figured when I was a kid. 500 street fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate tough guy. You need them for experience. To develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then, after, you realize that's what you are.

Actually the damage there is negligible. Because we would still need people to issue checks and investigate fraud- and make sure businesses are on the up and up.

Thanks for giving it a fair shot, BEB. Boortz does a better job talking about the Fair Tax than I do. And if you have questions, I'm sure he'll answer them.

Finally got around to reading it tonight.

For those who haven't yet, figures and a few tables are included, but its not dry reading. They make a compelling argument for the Fair Tax.

That said, I'm not convinced yet, but I'm a lot closer than I was before. I still have my reservations on a couple of points, but I heartily recommend others read the book. Even if you don't come out of it a Fair Tax supporter the overall content is worth the price of admission.

Thanks for giving it a read.

    Another nugget of information:

If you adjust prices from 1773 to today, we are being taxed more by our government than the tax imposed that started the Boston Tea Party.
