Cops Helping Cops
I just ran across this website; www.copshelpingcops.com. Very nice organization doing great work. And anyone in emergency services can sign up. They are currently helping the Police Officers in New Orleans. Here is a short article from "American Police Beat" on what they are about.........check them out its a worthy cause.
I am one of the many officers who responded to New Orleans immediately following Katrina’s attack. Through the concerted efforts of a friend of mine, Chris Lyons from New York, and some pretty creative police work, we were let into the inner city.
We set up camp in a Wal-Mart parking lot and then we went to work doing search and rescue each and every day on the water.
We were credited with 67 saves. We worked with several New Orleans P.D. officers and have stayed in touch with them.
They told us the same things you point out in your front page story in the March issue, “Left on their own.” Chris and I went to New Orleans to see what was going on and everything in your article is true.
We decided to start a non-profit organization called Cops Helping Cops. We are gathering volunteers from all over the United States. To volunteer, we ask that you are from law enforcement, fire service, emergency medicine, or any other emergency care giving agency.
We will fly volunteers to New Orleans, we put them up in hotels and feed them. We ask that they work for a week. Our mission is to help the officers of the Police Department re-build their homes. We do this on a strictly volunteer basis. We are providing free labor to those officers that we help. For more information go to our website: www.copshelpingcops.com.
And thanks to American Police Beat for letting the world know of the plight of those fine officers.
