Being a Cop isn't Easy
Being a Cop isn't Easy
For the civilians, you think that our job consist of sitting around eating donuts and making jokes about people that we have arrested. You think that lunch breaks come when ever we want to take one. You think that seeing us driving around is us, either not doing anything, or preying on the innocent and trying to make our monthly pay in a days work. You think that every cop is corrupt. You think just because we are driving fast from place to place, means that the law does not apply to us the same as it applies to you. You think that questioning someone about being drunk or being high is harrassment.
The real story...
A cop sitting around eating donuts is a cop unprepared. Unprepared as in, not being in shape to take on the person that just killed your son/daughter and does not want to go to jail.
A cop sitting around joking about the arrest he just made, in fact, helps him take his mind off of the blood pouring out of a 19 year olds mouth from the night before from a alcohol related wreck, or the innocent 12 year old boy that he has known for a better part of his life being molested by a 30 year homosexual child molesting deviant.
A cop that you see sitting at a store, well that is a lucky cop. Not often do we get an opportunity to sit and eat without worry of responding to a domestic call where a drunken father has just beat his daughter for running the cell phone bill up $10 more dollars that month.
Fact, it's not going to effect our pay by writing you a "failure to stop at a stop sign" ticket. However, it will save us the heartache and headache of working a collision when you smash into someone else's car.
Corrupt cops...ha.ha. That's why we have trouble paying our bills. Yes, it is true cops are not perfect, but there are a lot of cops that are trying to become perfect. Yes, some cops are corrupt. Do you think we like them anymore that you. NO, we don't. As a matter of fact, we don't want them being one of us. Eventually, they get caught. Unlike the criminal code of not snitching (which does not exist), a committed cop has a lot of trouble "snitching" on another cop. But, like I said before, in the long run, they get caught. Their punishment is worse that a regular criminal. They go to jail, they usually die. Think about it, they put a lot of them criminal back there, those criminals obviously know this too. Life expectancy for a cop behind bars, I'm guessing 2 days (that's pushing it).
A cop that you see driving like a "bat out of hell" through town, is in fact trying to save all of your personal belongings from a robber that has just entered your house, or to try to get to fight that is occurring between your son and about 10 other guys trying to kick his ass for saying hi to one of the guy's girlfriends.
A cop questioning someone to see if he/she is intoxicated on something is his/her of making sure that the person will make it home okay. It's a cops way of taking that guy/girl off the roadway, so that your son/daughter will make it home safely.
This may sound like an attack on all citizens. It's not. There are those select few that come up and shake my hand and say thank you. Thank you for responding so quickly and saving our life savings. Thank you for calling me and letting me know that my son had been drinking, so I could take him home safely and DISCIPLINE him myself. Thank you for catching the guy/girl that murdered my son/daughter. Thank you for watching my neighborhood.
Thank you...for putting your life on the line for my family.
How would you like knowing that your husband/wife is putting his own family at risk, by putting his/her life on the line for someone elses family, and that family not giving two shits about the cops well being. That cop is someone's husband, wife, son, daughter, ect... My wife knows that if my life is on the line on the street, I'm going to bite, claw, shoot, punch, kick, strangle, cut, or whatever it takes, to put food on the table the next day. To come home and see my sons loving eyes. To come home and feel the soft kiss of my wifes lips when she meets me at the door.
So don't judge me when you see me sitting down to enjoy a drink of coffee. Don't judge me when you see me driving fast through town. Don't judge me when I pull you over for not stopping at that stop sign. Don't judge me when you see me talking to your relative and giving the a sobreity test, I may have just saved their life.
If you think you could have my job, take it. I'll hand it to you. But know this,

Well wrote. Too bad we can't get more people to read it. Perhaps we can see if BEK can post this on the myspace page?

for thee, My Lord, for thee,
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,
That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy Command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls will it ever be.

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.
