need help
Hey I have a quick question for you car savvy people. It is now 103 degrees outside so I keep the AC in my car on at all times ( personal car ). Ive noticed that my car really really bogs down when AC is on, at one point my car actually shut off while driving on the freeway. I have a 2005 Honda Accord, Warranty is gone due to mileage. I am just wondering why the power cuts off more than normal in the car.

If it's a stick, when you shift the RPMs drop, and if the AC is bogging the engine down just enough it can kill the engine. That happens to me in my Mitsu Eclipse sometimes. If it does it when you're at normal RPMs, without shifting...

Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me

The squirrel has gotten tired. Replace the squirrel, (and might as well change the nut hanging on the string in front of the conveyor belt too). Some Honda Technicians sternly recommend not capturing wild squirrels to use for this, but I have found just about any fox squirrel with a healthy appetite and good hips will do as well as the factory Honda squirrel.

Honestly just not enough balls to keep everything running. Keep your RPM's up and it should keep working.

Ok Tony,, on a seriouis note,, it is hot,,, you car has work hard keeping the engine cool. Therefore the cooling fans run more, causing the alternator to work harder. That takes horsepower, as does the a/c compressor. When it cycles it robs your 4 banger of more horsepower and with it being that hot outside, it may not cycle on and off very often. The compressor is driven by a drive belt on the engine and your being a 4 banger it just doesn't have massive amounts of power. Try gearing it down on gear, keeping the rpms up and see what happens.
If all else fails,,, get a Chevy!!!

1. Unscrew the Oil cap.

It shut off at highway speed?
If it stalled while stopped I'd suspect the fast idle circuit isn't working properly. When the AC is on the idle position is changed slightly to keep the engine from stalling - if that was the case likely just a solenoid or sensor to replace. But if you were under power at the time, hmm, that's worrisome.

+1.
A lot of 4 cylinder cars have a setup that shuts off the compressor at full throttle so the Squirrel doesn't expire from overwork.
Sounds like you need to have somebody look at it.
A couple of simple things you can do:
1. Make sure the condenser (in front of the radiator) isn't blocked by dirt/sand/dead bugs/crap. If it is, hose it out from the back side.
2. Read the owner's manual (that thing in the glovebox used for writing down phone nos, plates, mopping up coffee spills, etc) and see if there's an air filter in the evaporator (the thing ... never mind. Ask a car guy where it is). If that is plugged, the compressor may build too much pressure due to lack of airflow.Anything posted here does not represent the opinion of any agency anywhere ever.
Hell, it doesn't necessarily represent the opinion of the poster and is subject to change at any time.
Deal with it.
