Chat room or IM

What would you all think about having a chat room or an Instant messenger that is dedicated to the board only. Meaning that when your on the board you can IM or Chat in a room with other people?

Its a great idea and one I used to have on my site but unless the site is incredible busy (and Im talking mega busy) its not used a whole lot.

Yeah its great if you can do it but reality is it wont be popular and in fact will only decrease posts.

ADD: IM talking about chat facility. I think a private IM is a great idea.

I agree with this. This will decrese post count. The chat could work if everyone is logged automatically into one communal window but individual IMs will seriously decrease post counts.

Actually I think it might help reduce off topic chatting. That might reduces the threads but it would make them more concise and less "fluffy".

I didn't vote, but either one is fine.

I have AOL IM, Yahoo and MSN, and I don't use the IM features I have now, so I really don't think it would change much if I had the option available to me here.

As for chat, I'm a regular at one chat room at another forum that I've been a member of for years. That's about the extent of my chatting.

For me--I'm content with the PM feature here. There's only one person I talk to offline from the forum, and if I want to talk, he's only a phone call away.

So as I said, either is ok for me. Whatever the majority wants and works for the LEF staff.

BTW, I will be contributing some cash very soon and whatever you use the money here for makes no difference to me. If it's for more bandwidth, more power to you. If it's for chat or IM, that's great too. Whatever works best for the forum.
