Please take a moment to remember what happened on this date 63 years ago.
Brave American, British and Canadian soldiers rushed the beaches of Normandy in the face of unbelievable odds. Through thier heroic acts, the tide of World War 2 was turned and it was the beginning of the end of the Nazis in Europe.
Can you imagine yourself rushing a beach that is being sparyed by machine gun fire and artillery and men are dying all around you? I know I can't, so please give these heros their due and think of them today. The opinions given in my posts DO NOT reflect the opinions, views, policies, and/or procedures of my employing agency. I cannot imagine having to face something like that. I watch movies and think.. geesh... and how so many of them were just babies.http://www.allpoetry.com/Grunts%20Girl
We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion

I definitly agree with that. But I'm sure that most of those people who care more about Paris Hilton are the young ones. The older generation of people are far more respectful towards such a day as this. True, I am young. But I have a very passionate side for history. And I could give a rat's ass about Paris Hilton or Lindsey Lohan or any of those "I need attention" celebrities.

Today is also Momma Term's 50th birthday!!!
We've got a nice birthday bash planned for her. My parents, myself, and my fiancee (JRae) are going out to Texas Steakhouse, and I'm going to get loaded!
My slack ass younger brother isn't going, he's working...hell, I can't even get his ass to join LEF (he's a cop).

I visited the Normandy region in 1985 on vacation when I was in college. I remember two things the most.
1) Standing looking out at one of the beaches near Bayeaux, seeing some of the obstacles placed by the Germans still in place and wondering how in hell the landings were a success considering the advantages the defense had and feeling a tremendous amount of admiration and respect for those who participated.
2) I was amazed at how much gratitude the locals still felt. Everywhere I went British and American flags flew and the people I encountered, even the younger ones, seemed to be very thankful and were very friendly and gracious.Never have so many owed so much to so few.
