British Officer Stabbed to death this morning
A 36-year-old police officer has died and another man is in a serious condition after a triple stabbing.
Officers were called at about 0715 BST to George Street in Luton town centre, outside the Marks and Spencer store.
The male police officer died at Luton and Dunstable Hospital where the other two victims are being treated, Bedfordshire Police said.
A man has been arrested in connection with the stabbings. A large area of the town centre has been cordoned off.
One of the injured men, thought to be aged in his 50s, was said to be in a serious but stable condition.
Police have not given details of the second man but said he was also being treated in hospital.

It was not known if the dead officer had been wearing a stab vest, although police spokesman Des Lawless said all officers were issued with the protective clothing and it was their choice whether or not to wear it.
Mr Lawless said colleagues had been left shocked by the killing.
He said: "There was a low mood among the police officers.
"They know they face these dangers every day of their career but we all hope nothing like this will ever happen.
"I don't remember a police officer dying in these circumstances during my service and I have been here for more than 40 years."
Home Secretary John Reid said he was "deeply saddened" by the death.
He added: "Such events highlight the dangers that police officers face every day on the front line protecting the public.
"This is a tragic event and I offer my deepest sympathy to the officer's family, friends and colleagues."If at first you don't succeed, then bomb disposal probably isn't for you.

Man they really need to give all of you guys guns...Just because your sign off after you're shift is done, doesn't mean that it's over and put blinders on. You're a cop 24/7 wether you like it or not. If thats something you can't handle, you should find a new line of work!

Haven't seen the news today so this was a shock.
No doubt another senseless act.
The ruling on my unit is that body armour is worn at all times on duty. I would do this even if it wasn't an order and can't understand why anyone would choose not to wear it. I know its's not a cast iron form of protection and it may well be this officer was wearing it. I think it is interesting to note that the offender was arrested using a taser and baton round. This means firearms officers were on the scene, what kind of restraint is that to go for non lethal force!?
I know I wouldn't be able to do it if I had the option.the sole advantage of power is that you can do more good.

Just saw an update and the officer was wearing his stab vest.
It has been said that some offenders aim deliberately for the non protected areas but that is speculation.the sole advantage of power is that you can do more good.

My thoughts and prayers to the Officer's family, friends and colleagues.
My sister was on duty when they brought him into A&E. Everyone is absolutely devastated by what has happened today.Never approach a bull by the front, a horse from behind, or an idiot from any direction.
