I have J&D court tomorrow and I'm going over my uniform and doing my shoes. My wife said I needed serious OCD help :p

I've seen some of the Deputies come into court with their shirts almost pulled out of their pants, mud caked dull boots and nylon web gear that is frayed and mud caked. My opinion is that looks sloppy as hell on the street but to wear that in court?

Maybe I'm just "old school", but I firmly believe that you can have the cleanest uniform in town with creases you can cut yourself on, but if your shoes/boots don't reflect light, you're not "all you can be".
Maybe it's a result of eight years in the Marine Corps, where we had to put a spit shine on boots that started out as a "rough out" type material (not smooth leather).
Used to piss me off to watch a Lt. I had on motors years ago. His idea of polishing his MC boots was (I tell you true) spray 'em with Armor All, and wipe 'em down. One of the laziest SOB's I ever knew.
Without shined/polished footwear you just do not have a professional appearance.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

<EDIT> Might add that with almost twenty-two years active service, and another fifteen as a Reserve Deputy prior to that, I passed rookie status a loooong time ago. I STILL feel that a professional appearance is important. Apparently my Supervisors must think so too, since I always get high marks for appearance on my annual performance evaluations. (No brag - just fact.)

My dept. doesnt require shiny shoes anymore but I still wear them on court days.
I still polish my boots and dry clean my uniforms.

Patent leather shoes here all the way. Dont like them but the sheriff does so i wear the hot, sweaty bastards
My uniform is dry cleaned every few weeks, my shirts are always ironed and clean. My boots get waterproofed/polished every week roughly but sometimes they get a quick rub if they are perticularily dirty.Quote:

regular duty, I wear my plain leather toed boots. Polished, does a good job. :)
Class A's, I wear patent leather shoes.
Uniforms are still dry cleaned.
