Who Loves The Fair?
I love going to the county fair! I have tried to go in every state I have ever lived. I love the home arts, the animals, the weird collections.....and let's not forget the food!!!!
I'm a corn-dog gal.....just love 'em....here's what's happening at the San Diego County Fair this year.

Featured this year, fried rattlesnake and krispy kreme chicken sandwich. (I'll pass)
I do like the Australian Battered Potatoes though.

I used to love the county fair. When I was a kid the tractor displays were GREAT! Also the rides

Fair here doesn't have farm machinery, (different expos have drawn them off) but these days the critter judging is more to my liking than it was then so it's all good.
What are Australian Battered Potatoes and are they Wombat tested and approved?

I don't think we have County fairs, but Dallas hosts the State fair in October.
One year we accidentally went on "Gay Day", which was quite an experience to see so many men in hot pants - I never saw so much butt-patting since the last time I went to a Cowboy's football game (hmmm - coincidence???).
On the plus side, "Gay Day" was less crowded.
The last time we went a couple of years ago, they wanded me & missed my pistol, so I pulled out my CHL card & said "try again". That time he found it - Messing with Wand Boy was fun, but everything else was too crowded to enjoy any of it.
I think this year we need to see when Gay Day's gonna be.

Well, I don't know if Wombat has had them, but they are plank slices of potato that have been battered and fried. Usually served with ranch dressing.
I like the sweet potato version.

Man...TXChuck is right about the Texas State Fair. In all of my life, I have missed going to the fair twice. I'm 26 for 28. And those 2 years were when I lived in Ohio. It's something my Dad and I have done since forever ago and it's good quality time we get together. Always get there at the same time...always park in the same lot..always go to the exhibits in the same order...always eat the same food purchased at the same booth. It's awesome. And if that makes me a nerd, then so be it.
Incidentally, one year we went on Gay Pride Day. Very funny to see pops figure out what was going on. "Man..it must be 'Half Price if you Wear a Pink Cowboy Hat Day and Really Short-Shorts' Day at the fair today. Those gentlemen seem to be enjoying their time here, but where are their wives? It must be guys...day.......out.......... ...OH MY GOD!!!! WHERE ARE WE?!?!? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?!?!?" My dad is very much like Hank Hill and the dad from The Wonder Years.

I love fairs and carnivals, especially the corn dogs and funnel cakes.

At the Michigan State Fair a few years ago I went into the "Miracle of Life" tent, where they have animals about to give birth. I was able to see a couple of pigs being born.

I used to like the State Fair, but everything is exactly the same every year. It's not as fun as it used to be.

As one who was born and bred in the country, I love county fairs, and I'm a corn dog gal, too! While I haven't been to the fair in many years,
I occasionally go to DQ for a true corn dog!

The most fun I have at a fair is trying to find a Carny with a full set of teeth!
For the morning will come. Brightly will it shine on the brave and true, kindly upon all who suffer for the cause, glorious upon the tombs of heroes. Thus will shine the dawn.

Even DQ can't compete with the county fair corn dogs, but they sure are a close second. BTW, can you guess what I had for lunch on my way to class today (I couldn't resist after reading your thread)?
