Talking House Minority leader John Baynor (R-OH) Calls Amnesty Bill a "Piece of Shit"

    Video (Lou Dobbs Report): http://www.vpfmi.org/Videos/AmnestyBills.wmv

Finally a congressman who tells it like it is.

Someone sent this to me in a email - I haven't been able to date this CNN video, but there's definitely ample commentary and reporting on these provisions on Lou Dobb's web site:
    http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/lou.dobbs.tonight/

One report of note: Dobbs: Big media hides truth about immigration - How can CNN permit this?

Some of the reasons cited for John Baynor's reaction to this Amnesty Bill:
    • Legal Status Granted 24 Hours after Application filed (even if BG Check not completed)
    • Taxpayers will be paying for all the lawyers in deportation proceedings
    • Permanent (infinitely renewable) Temporary Visas
    • Amnesty for Gang members if they just say they're not in a gang anymore
    • US Taxpayers will be paying Mexicans to stay in Mexico
    • Illegal Aliens will owe no back taxes
    • Fast track for SPP ("Security & Prosperity Partnership", which would open Canadian and Mexican borders)
    • No meaningful border security provisions
    • Proposed 800-mile border fence slashed to 200 miles
    • Tuition denied to Americans would be granted to illegal aliens
    • Amnesty for illegal aliens who were previously deported
    • Deportation hearings shut down
    • Learning English not required till 9th year of Amnesty
    • Illegal Aliens will be eligible for Earned Income Tax Credit, even if they paid no taxes

Angry Tell your congressman HELL NO to the amnesty bill

It is being reported that the immigration reform bill to give illegal immigrants amnesty, is going to go before the congress again, tomorrow (Tuesday). WE MUST STOP THIS! If this happens, it will be a complete disaster. This is not an answer to the illegal immigration problem.

In 1986 Sen. Kennedy said, “This amnesty will give citizenship to only 1.1 to 1.3 million illegal immigrants. We will secure the borders henceforth. We will never again bring forward another amnesty bill like this.”

Yet here we are 20 years later with 12 million illegal immigrants, and another amnesty proposal is before us.

Amnesty is nothing new. What is new are the security risks and fiscal strains (not to mention the concerns of crime and the reintroduction of diseases the U.S. had conquered) of illegal immigration.

This bill will vastly expand entitlement spending. Tax increases will likely be required to pay for services for the massive influx of unskilled and uneducated immigrants.

Sen. Kennedy was disingenuous in 1986 and he still can’t be trusted in 2007. Yet the few Republican senators who have joined Ted Kennedy in crafting the 2007 amnesty compromise (who ran for office as “conservatives”) betray conservative principles of being tough on crime, fiscally responsible and helping our poor move out of poverty. This amnesty bill imports poverty, reverses the gains made by the Welfare Reform Act of 1994 and, according to some analysts, will bring insolvency to an already over-subscribed welfare-healthcare-Social Security system. This “compromise” was done in private and the text remains secret. The bill is estimated to number between 385 to 1,000 pages. Most senators will not have time to read it before they vote, and debate will be restricted in order to rush the bill through the Senate “before the politics of 2008 make such action impossible,” as Sen. John McCain put it.

This coalition of Democrat and Republican U.S. senators have allowed no public dissemination of their discussions and no public review of their proposal in hopes of precluding a public outcry before the disastrous deal can be done. My critique therefore is based on the information trickle that has flowed through journalists and citizen watchdogs.

This bill rewards illegal immigrants for breaking our laws. Amnesty supporters spin that a path-to-citizenship is not amnesty. It is amnesty because it gives illegal immigrants the same reward they broke the law to receive. Amnesty supporters say illegal immigrants will go to the back of the line. This is not true. Illegal immigrants immediately get a probationary card that allows them to live and work legally in the U.S. (They only have to “touchback” across the border to apply and return.) This probationary card assures citizenship to illegal immigrants and selects illegal immigrants ahead of would-be immigrants throughout the world who want to come to the U.S. Amnesty in essence changes immigration policy to give citizenship to those who cross our border illegally and in fact to favor them over others who want to immigrate to the U.S. and have not broken the law.

Amnesty will reverse the “secure our borders first!” law that Congress passed in October 2006. Amnesty supporters say that the “compromise” bill will first secure our borders before illegal immigrants can get citizenship. This is not true. Instead of building the 854-mile wall to secure our borders before deciding what to do with12 million illegal immigrants (as the October 2006 bill signed into law mandates), this bill requires that only 340 miles of the 854-mile fence be built before giving amnesty to illegal aliens. Our borders will still not be secure. Illegal immigration will continue. And we continue not to know who is in our country.

Amnesty negatively impacts Social Security and puts America’s seniors at risk. This bill allows illegal immigrants to count the time they worked using fraudulent Social Security numbers toward time needed to receive Social Security benefits. Further, after amnesty passes (according to California Congressman Bilbray), Congress intends to approve the Social Security Totalization Agreement signed with Mexico in 1994 to “totalize” U.S. Social Security benefits for legal and illegal Mexicans working in the U.S. Totalization means that Mexican workers can add time they worked in Mexico to time they work in the U.S. to qualify for Social Security. Mexican workers could qualify for U.S. Social Security benefits with fewer years than the 10 years normally required of U.S. citizens. The agreement gives Social Security benefits to family members of Mexican workers, even if their family members are not U.S. citizens or even if they do not live in the United States. Also, survivors of Mexican workers would get benefits — even if they are not U.S. citizens and even if they have never lived in the U.S.

The Senate’s 62-36 vote sets up a clash with the House, which in December approved legislation that emphasized strengthening barriers at the U.S.-Mexico border and didn’t account for guest workers or undocumented immigrants.

The congressional debate on immigration has sparked demonstrations across the nation by people demanding immigrant rights, while creating an election-year breach between Republicans who want to focus on border control and those who back new immigration programs.

President George W. Bush, seeking to bridge that divide, has pledged to deploy National Guard troops on the border to boost security, while backing the creation of both a new guest-worker program and a path for undocumented immigrants to gain citizenship.

More than 1.1 million people were caught trying to illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border in 2004 and an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants now live in the U.S.

    Guest Workers

The Senate measure would allow as many as 200,000 low- skilled workers a year to come to the U.S. and do jobs for which companies can’t find American workers. It also provides a path to citizenship for many of the undocumented immigrants if they pay a $3,250 fine and back taxes, learn English, and pass a background check.

The treatment of those in the country illegally was one of the most contentious points of debate among senators and will be an obstacle in negotiations with the House, lawmakers said.

“It is an amnesty bill, or a legalization bill, that I think is just fundamentally unfair,” Pennsylvania Republican Rick Santorum told reporters. “There are very serious problems with this legislation that I hope the House of Representatives will address.”

Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., and the Democratic leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, both sided with supporters, a reflection of the bipartisan backing for a bill that was months in the drafting and survived several near-death experiences.

Conservative critics attacked the legislation to the end after trying unsuccessfully to pull it apart with amendments.

“This bill will not secure our borders,” said Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., one of the most persistent critics.

“This is amnesty,” added David Vitter, R-La., who tried last week to strip out provisions relating to citizenship.

Not so, said Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., chairman of the Judiciary Committee, in a rebuttal to weeks of debate. “They have to pay a fine. They have to undergo a criminal background check. They have to pay back taxes, they have to learn English and they have to go to the back of the line,” he said, referring to illegal immigrants who would apply for citizenship.

Still, Sessions, Vitter, John Cornyn of Texas and others echoed a view widely held among House Republicans, many of whom have vigorously denounced the Senate bill as well as Bush’s call for a “comprehensive approach” to the issue.

“This is not the final scene of this blockbuster that we have on the Senate floor,” Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) warned before the vote began late this afternoon. “There is another act to go.”

E-mail sent to GOP Rep Mike Pence:

“The Senate has passed an amnesty bill. Amnesty by any other name is still amnesty. The American people do not support amnesty for illegal immigrants.

“This does not mean, however, that we cannot work together to find a solution to the problem of illegal immigration. The real rational middle ground can be found in a bill that is tough on border security, employer enforcement, and contains a no-amnesty guest worker program run by the private sector.”

I think that part explains why I'm on the fence (pun intended) about this issue. I've heard directly from senate offices both sides to this. It's not as simple as people claim for these illegals to become citizens, and they otherwise contribute absolutely nothing to our society or economy while taking whatever they want.

It's amazing to me how different Republican Senators and Represenatitives who read the bill come to exact opposite conclusions.

That tells me that they don't know what the hell they're voting for, which is enough in itself to say it needs to be defeated.

Actually, that's not all straight talk. Though the background is required at some point, they can still be allowed to become citizens without it being completed first. This policy makes it very easy for illegals to become citizens. Anyone who's researched this, knows it.
