Flowers
Yesterday it was like....90 some degrees out, and I got off of work at 7 am. I decided that with heat like that, and a lack of central air in my house (window unit ONLY) that it'd be best if I didn't go to bed, as yesterday was also my first day off.
So I went to Menards, bought a shit town of flowers and planted my butt off.
I bought zinnias, petunias, double impatiens, and marigolds.
Oh yeah...this is the first time I've ever planted anything. Ever.
Pretty much the only thing I looked into was whether or not the plants needed to be in the sun...other than that I just went to town.
Any tips on how to keep them alive!!?????

This is what the flower bed looked like BEFORE I did anything with it.

Petunias and Zinnia's planted in partial sun/full sun. Full sun from about noon through sundown. How often should I water them?? The petunias look kind of wilty cuz I had just planted them....I'm hoping watering them will perk them up?

Petunias and Marigolds in planted in partial sun. Again...how often should I water?

A small portion of the front flower bed, marigolds and double impatiens planted in partial/full sun. Oh, and a zinnia. How often should I water these?

No tips, jmur... sorry! I'm just wandering if you could come over to my house cuz my flower bed could use some sprucing up, too! Oh, and it's suppose to be cooler today... 86 degrees! Oh, yeah, I have central air, too! I'll even make some homemade lemonade. When can I expect you?

Wow. That is some green thumb you have.
Up your ass. Fag.And Shepards we shall be,
for thee, My Lord, for thee,
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,
That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy Command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls will it ever be.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I think those are all pretty hardy flowers that shouldn't need a lot of maintenance other than watering. I'm not sure if it's impatiens or vincas that need to be in almost constant moist soil or they'll start to wilt, but they do bounce back.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, they'll bounce back. Like jmur's hips off his boyfriend's ass

the biggest thing is to keep the soil moist. Dont water too close to sun set because you will attract bugs. when marigolds start to die pick off the hard seed pods and keep them someplace cool- thos are your seeds for next year
. those are all pretty good in full sun and the petunias are the ones most sensitive to the sun as far as dry out...
give them all a good water in the mornings and you should be set. a good fertilizer would be one of aged horse manure- those flowers do well in that type of setting with good drainage.

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion

Gotta go with Goz on this one though I might add that you could throw in some Root stimulator to since you just planted them. Better roots mean that the plants will be able to suck up the water and nutrients better and be healthier in the long run.
And ButterBabes, your right, its Impatiens that want more water...
Otherwise looking good so far

You know those are all annuals, right? You only have to keep them alive as long as they're blooming, after that they'll die anyway.

Yes, but be careful, they get burnt if you water their leaves during the day and of course if you water after sunset it reduces the evaporation and lets the roots develop deeper. Don't water every day, that will promote a shallow root system and one that can be damaged by the heat. A seaweed type of fertilizer with promote a healthy soil.
And a tip, any commercial box of fertilizer is going to have an NPK Ratio on the box. It is a series of three numbers: N is for Nitrogen, P is for Phosphorus and K is for Potassium. Each of the three macronutrients will play a significant role in plant development. The reason fertilizers have the NPK numbers on the box is because Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium are the three macronutrients that are usually not in the soil already. Nutrients like iron, boron, magnesium, and manganese are typically in the soil already. The way the ratio is written out is going to be important in plant development because plants utilize the nutrients in different ways. For example, nitrogen is good for lush green growth; phosphorus plays a key role in flower and bloom development; and potassium aides in root growth. It also works together with phosphorus to assist the plant in maturing the fruit or flowers.
Enjoy.

Yes I am aware of that.
But, funny story....walking through Menards, intending to buy flowers I wondered....which type of flower grows every year? Annuals or perennials? I made the assumption that annuals grow "annually" or....every year. I wanted to buy "annualls" because I didn't want to have to spend the money or time on flowers next summer....
Well, I've since found out they are called annualls because you have to PLANT them every year.....
When I found that out (post purchase of the flowers) I swore a blue streak for 10 solid minutes...No one has greater love than this, to lay down ones life for ones friends - John 15:13
