Do you smoke?
Do you smoke? If so, how and why did you start smoking?
If you used to smoke but quit, how and why did you quit?
I've never smoked. I get addicted to things (like LEF
) very easily, so I avoid trying anything I know would be addictive (I didn't know LEF would be addictive
). I'm just wondering how and why people start smoking and how and why they quit.

I tried it for a couple of years. Never really got into it. Saw it was waste of money, so I quit.

Peer pressure plain and simple. My friends all did it and I went with the crowd.
I quit when my wife, who also smoked, was pregnant with out second child. She can start smoking today and quit in six months with no problem. Different story for me. Without thinking I told her that I wasn't the one pregnant. It took about a week after that statement for me to realize how much more safe it was for me to quit. Best decision my wife ever made for me.

I used to, but when my son was on his way I quit. I still have the occasional smoke if I'm at work and shootin the breeze or pissed off. Another weakness is if I'm drinking with friends that do smoke.

I can barely afford gas for my car let alone trying to maintain that habit. Also, it's pretty gross if you ask me. Ick. Cough.

Never smoked, never had the desire to - It makes me gag.
My dad smoked, and I couldn't hardly breathe when he clouded up the whole house. Sometimes I'd go around opening all the windows when it was 20 degrees outside just so I could breathe.

holy shit
I used to go through one can a day, about 1 dip every two hours.
Now I go through one can every....2 days or so.
I'm cutting back..but quitting is so friggin' hard. It's like crack!!!
I read in a Mayo Health medical journal that chew gives you 5x as much nicotine as cigarettes, making it 5x more addictive. I honestly think I could quit smoking, if I smoked. Because I can go a day without chewing, but after that day is up I'm craving it.No one has greater love than this, to lay down ones life for ones friends - John 15:13

never have, never will. came from a house where mom smoked 2 packs a day.
500 fights, that's the number I figured when I was a kid. 500 street fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate tough guy. You need them for experience. To develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then, after, you realize that's what you are.

Started smoking when I was 17. Peer pressure. I've had a few times that I've quit cold-turkey for 3 months, 6 months, and a year. Drinking always seems to bring me back to the smokes.
I quit smoking in my car a few years ago. That eliminates 4 cigarettes each work day. On off days, I can go the whole day with none or 1 smoke. I smoke a lot at work because it's something to do when I get bored or want to stretch my legs. The views expressed in the above post are the sole opinion of the author and do not reflect any official position by the author's employer and/or municipality.

My Mom was a smoker, I used to give my Mom the hardest time about it too. I'm from Wisconsin, and a lot of my family smoked too.
Funny thing happened when I grew up and moved up....I started smoking!
I wonder sometimes if I became addicted via second hand smoke.
I was more a stress/social smoker, and never more then 1/2 pack a day. I started waking up with a sore throat, and then one morning, blood on my pillow from my ears bleeding. That's when I quit.

I only started chain smoking because some asshole fucked me over, and I was under a great state of stress, then I saw how it was effecting me, all my clothes started smelling like smoke, no matter how many times I washed my hands they would also smell of smoke. I couldnt make it up to my room without panting, basically smoking slowed me down on alot of things, so I stopped and my body started to improve again, now I'm healthy as a horse.
