Emt-II
My FD is putting me through the EMT-II for the state of Alaska. It is the intermediate EMT classification, capable of running IV's etc. If I ever need a backup plan for work, I'm gonna be pretty squared away for EMS work. Also, our ambulance is the only one on the highway within 100 miles of the hospital. Several of us are doing the class, which means our ambulance might get ALS certified which is a damn good thing

Good to hear! Our EMTs out in the mountains are great.

Thats good. Our F/D almost lost its ambulance cert (vol dept) but me and a few others joined and are very dedicated, plus our flight sergeant let's us go during work if he has enough people. Makes it much more likely that someone will go.

The group I just started with is drafting a proposal to turn ourselves into an ALS agency as well. We have a number of paramedics and some of the more allowing protocols for a BLS agency of our nature. I believe we were one of the first BLS groups in the country to use the combitube and a couple other fun toys. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck in your course.
