So I've decided to run a marathon. I've picked one on Nov. 18th, which is 4.5 months away. I've got an 18 week training program (highly recommended from a buddy who ran White Rock last year), so I'll begin in earnest in August. Any tips out there? Anyone else here ever ran (slightly more than) a quarter of a hundred miles at one time?

I have. Advice take it slow and easy during training. Take rest days to allow recovery. Start now, with a couple of miles each day. Drink lots of water. You only need to train up to 20 miles, which you will only have to do once, about 3 weeks before the big day. The other 6and a bit the adrenaline will carry you over. It is a strain on the body especially if you weigh around the 190lbs I did when I was running them.To be born an Englishman, is to be a winner in the Lottery of Life.

I'm around 200 lbs right now, so I'm definitely wanting to get down to around 180 before I hit the big mileage. Thanks for the advice..I'll keep you posted.
