Advice from the SoCal members, please
G'day LA people, I'm thinking of staying at Marina Del Rey near Venice Beach, heard any bad or good things about the area?

Well, I can check around.
I always heard Marina del Rey is a rather upscale part of town.
Venice Beach is were all the funky stuff is happening.Molly Weasley makes Chuck Norris eat his vegetables.

I just came home from dinner in Venice it was nice...expensive but nice... MDR is nice... if you like Tapas try Primitivo in Venice... get the white halibut... AMAZING!

I've been there before. Stayed there for a weekend. It's a great place to go, a little upscale so going out to eat is a little bit more money but who cares. Lots of hot chicks in that area!!!
Just because your sign off after you're shift is done, doesn't mean that it's over and put blinders on. You're a cop 24/7 wether you like it or not. If thats something you can't handle, you should find a new line of work!

I try to stay away from LA as much as I can. Ventura County is separated by the Santa Monica Mountains.
MDR is pretty upscale. When I did some side work as a PI, I had a few workmans comp cases involving people that work there. They lived elsewhere and surveillance during rush hour sucked!

I used to work the overtime cash details at Venice Beach. If you go on the weekends, it is wild during the day. But as the evening comes, so do the gangsters. Watch for the change and when you notice a bunch, go catch a movie or leave and have dinner in Marina Del Ray.

Tony, have you thought about staying around Laguna Niguel?
I have to say it is my favorite and IMHO, the nicest. It would be my first choice.
My mother-n-law lives about 10 minutes away from there and we always go to the beach when I'm in town for a visit.
The Ritz is right there too if your looking for an upscale hotel.
The Ritz also has a wine, cheese and chocolate tasting room and a lovely dining room with fresh fish and seafood.
It has a gorgeous view of the ocean!
