My friend's house
was broken into and he isn't going to call the police. It happened last weekend. He wasn't home at the time, but his neighbor came by and saw the two who broke in and even stopped and talked with them until they left. He didn't call the police either. The only thing that was stolen was a key to the car, and he's getting a replacement for that now.
What's really odd is how his neighbor acted when he walked up on the two who had broken in. They actually shared a cigarette together before they left. I really don't understand it, but they think it's no big deal.

You're right. That is odd.

Must be old buddies!
What kind of car does he have?Just because your sign off after you're shift is done, doesn't mean that it's over and put blinders on. You're a cop 24/7 wether you like it or not. If thats something you can't handle, you should find a new line of work!

Was the neighbor the one who alerted the home owner about the break in?

Yes, the neighbor called him and left a voice mail that his house had been broken into. He is renting, he doesn't own it. As far as I know, he didn't tell the property owner either.
I didn't interuppt him while he was telling us about it last night, so I don't know why he didn't call the police. He's not a criminal himself, as a matter of fact I know he is the kind of person who will call 911 if he sees a drunk driver on the road.

1. House is broken into.
2. Neighbor witnesses break in.
3. Neighbor has conversation (and cigarette) with those involved in break in.
4. Neighbor doesn't call police, but notifies homeowner.
5. Homeowner doesn't call the police.
Me thinks they're ALL involved. Yes, this includes the homeowner, too. Could be an insurance scam on the car. Just because the homeowner says he's getting a replacement key doesn't make it so. Just my .02 (I could be wrong and I probably am).

Actually
kind of makes sense. I think he smokes it once in a while.
He has already had someone come out and do something to the chip in the car so that the stolen key can't start it anymore. He would never try to scam insurance anyway. The car isn't his, he's taking care of it while a friend is away in New York.
