Stephen King
Does anyone else like his work? I have never been a real reader, I did read the Goosebumps series while in elementary and middle school. I tried to read "IT" while in high school, but I just couldn't put in the dedication to finish the 10000000 page book lol. Im gonna try again tomorrow, I just bought it.......wish me luck

Try some of his shorter stories first. The Langoliers is a good one. I also really like The Long Walk and The Running Man. There are others that I can't remember right now.
Christine is a great full-length novel. I've never been able to get through some of his other novels, including IT."I'm not a coward,

I would pass"

The Stand is my favorite. Salem's Lot was good too.
I was a big Stephen King fan for the longest time....Misery was too hard for me....that bitch was relentless!
If you like that genre, read Shirley Jackson. She broke trail for King.

His novels sound way too dark and scary for me. My imagination is crazy enough as it is!

Stephen King is one of my favorite authors. Try the Dark Tower series. The Stand is awsome, I've read it about 3 times so far.

Opening paragraph from The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson:
No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more. Within, walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone.Molly Weasley makes Chuck Norris eat his vegetables.

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion

I have read several of Stephen King's books. Some of them are really good, and others aren't so good. So far I have liked Cujo and Pet Cemetery. I tried to read Desperation but couldn't do it. Four Past Midnight was an awesome book..lots of his short stories. The one about room 1408 was made into a movie.

I've read just about everything he's done. The Stand is my favorite, The Dark Tower series is ok for the first couple of books, then it slows down, Insomnia, Thinner, Misery were all great. Dolores Claiborne was pretty odd for King. Some of the others werent all that good but overall he's a great author.

Good choices there Cid. The Stand is a great read. Oh and if you are at work wake up Ally, she's asleep in Chat.

Stephen King is one of my all time favorite authors. There have only been a couple of his books that I had a hard time getting through. Tommy Knockers being one of them. Loved the Dark Tower series, most of his stuff is dark and creepy but thats why I love it. I find it funny that the man doesn't celebrate Halloween.

I just read 1408 yesterday, and I wansn't impressed
I know its only 50 pages, but the scary parts werent even scary. I remember that I read pet semetary when I was probably 14 or so, its definatly better than the movie. I have also seen IT, The shining, and carrie. Im still really excited about reading IT tonight
