Lest they be forgotten
This flag will soon be hanging on my porch. Heard this guy on the radio today, lost his son in Iraq, and designed this flag as tribute. I think its awesome, wanted to share.
500 fights, that's the number I figured when I was a kid. 500 street fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate tough guy. You need them for experience. To develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then, after, you realize that's what you are.

There are balms for all our pain
But, when youth, the dream, departs
It takes something from our hearts

"Captain, it is I Ensign Pulver. I just threw your damn palm tree overboard. Now, what's all this crap about no movie tonight?" -Ens Pulver in Mister Roberts
The man who will go where his colors go, without asking who will fight a phantom foe in the jungle and mountain range, without counting, and who will suffer and die in the midst of incredible hardship, without complaint, is still what he has always been, from Imperial Rome to sceptered Britain to democratic America. He is the stuff of which legions are made. ...His pride is in his colors and his regiment, his training hard and thorough and coldly realistic, to fit him for what he must face...and his obedience is to his orders. He has been called United State Marine.

Thanks for the post. Good one.
On a personal note:

Army Specialist Jeremiah DiGiovanni (left).
Army Specialist Ryan Baker (Right)
4th Battalion (Commancheros), 101st Aviation Regiment,
101st Airborne Division (Air Assault)
KIA: 15 Nov 03, Mosul, Iraq.
I differ somewhat with those who express condolences over such loss. I'm sorry for the family's loss, but I am also proud of his sacrifice. I am proud of his service. I wear Spc. Jeremiah DiGiovanni's memory like a badge of honor. I hold him as dear as if present with me. I wear his dogtags on every Patriot Guard Ride I attend, and devote myself in quiet times thinking of him. He was an astounding person to me. Young, but quiet and soft spoken, he was reserved in his demeanor far beyond his years. He was my junior by a over a decade chronologically, but vastly my senior in his calm, gentle, mature spirit. I loved him dearly, but as with most foolish men, I only grew to really deeply appreciate him when I could tell him no longer.
Rest easy, my little brother. We'll meet again in God's own time.
Those who love this nation refuse to turn their back on it or demean it. Those who love freedom will fight to defend it, and those who fall in that fight will be honored by victory, not retreat or surrender. We who have lost those we loved will accept no other legacy for their memory.Last edited by countybear; 05-16-08 at 10:45 AM.

Bump for Karri.
Thanks again for all that you do.
Of all the special people I meet, the memory of meeting you is held among the dearest.
