This is "Comics"???
I read 2 -3 newspapers a day,and since the age of about 8 or so,my favorite was,and still is the "Comics".Lately though ,they havent been "funny",.I grew up with" Nanncy and Sluggo",Alley Oop",Mutt & Jef"(kids ,just google them). These were intended to make you laugh and forget your problems.
Lateley they have taken a turn ,and I quite honestly dont know what to think, and wanted your opinions.
2 of the ones that I really read or "For Better or Worse" in which a main character is in the process of having a major stroke.Real humor there
The other is "Funky Winkerbean" in which one of the main characters was today ,shall we say "put to rest" or killed off.
.
How do you feel??? personally ,I read comics to laugh, not feel bad,if I want to see that stuff,I think that is what the Obits are for.

I prefer mine to be funny, not mini-soap operas.

The only comics I find funny are "Get Fuzzy" and "The Far Side." The others try to be too topical.

I don't really read the comics anymore, but when I do, I usually catch one of the Doonesbury ones that leaves me feeling depressed or mad.

Cartoons started as political commentaries.
I've enjoyed both the strips. The characters are much like family to me, as I've been reading them for years.
I'm sure there have been many who have received solace from the storylines....perhaps a guide to their own painful journey?

I think if they're not funny then they fail. We've had a few here that get to serious for their own good.
Yes and Larsen/Far Side is awesome. . .

Seems like when I was a kid, comics were just amusing, original jokes. Now it seems like every strip on the comics page has a political opinion. I like political cartoons on the editorial page, not on the comics page.
