Do not call info...
My aunt works for verizon and sent this to me... I figured it was worth sharing...
To prevent unwanted telemarketing calls, call the following number from your phone:
888-382-1222.
It's the N ational DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your
time.
It blocks your number for five (5) years.
You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked.
You cannot call from a different phone number.
This 800 number can be used for your residence telephone number too.
Again, you must call from the number you want to have blocked. If you
have done this previously it is time for renewal. Have a great week!Last edited by Illiy; 10-30-07 at 12:07 PM. Reason: Corrected info

The part about cell phone numbers being released is an urban legend (for now--I wouldn't be surprised if it became real someday!
)

But https://www.donotcall.gov/ is real.

HAHAHAHA my aunt got mad when I asked her about the snopes thing!
here is her response!
Illy,
Verizon is a better source for information regarding this subject. Verizon establishes these services with Government Agencies to protect our Customers. My personal experience is that I have done this with my residence number for the last five years and it has been very effective (it is now hitting the Cell phone service). It is totally up to you if you opt to ignore this. I will remove you from my distribution list going forward since you have your own resources. Have a great day.
P.S.
The exception is that if you have done business with any of these callers they can continue to call you regardless of the call block.

Yeah ok.
Ask her if the Federal Trade Commission is a good enough source for her.

One would think she'd have something more official to distribute other than an old urban legend with a smattering of truth. I've been a Verizon customer for a few years now and they have yet to inform me about such things to protect me.

haha! I think it's funny your aunt is a biotch. I've never had a telemarketer call my cell. Just Reca, who's just as bad.
