Any California Deputy District Attorneys?
By chance are there any Deputy District Attorneys from anywhere in California who are posters here? The reason I ask is that I am a former Imperial County Deputy D.A. and have lived in Taiwan for the past 14 years. For family reasons I will be returning to California in spring of next year. And...I will go back to the wild and wonderful world of prosecution. So I am looking around a bit to see if there is anyone I can talk with about how things have changed.
take care,
Brian

Actually, I think you maybe the first lawyer here. Perhaps you noticed our attorney joke section...
Do have some California LEO, though. And Shepards we shall be,
for thee, My Lord, for thee,
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,
That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy Command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls will it ever be.

I think a lawyer would be a welcome addition to the site!
(I'm so tired of brow-beating Jenna).

If his arguments are annoying, at least he can amuse us by stumbling around in a drunken stupor with a lampshade on his head.

Seems like someone had their feelings hurt. I got a PM from BrianlKennedy just a few minutes ago. I'll post it for your viewing pleasure, and so you can see what I have to put up with regularly as Site Owner:

Does he not get the difference between a bit of teasing and a real ball busting? I mean, really, if we didn't want him here, we'd have told him to GTFO and never come back.
Can't say he's done much to improve my overall opinion of lawyers any.\\` ` ` ` < ` )___/\

Here is my public reply...
Dear Mr. Kennedy,
I seriously question your motives here. You're a defense attorney coming onto a site for law enforcement officers, and supporters. You're neither. You sir, are the enemy, like it or not. I did a quick check and noticed you're a member of Behavior OnLine Forums.
http://www.behavior.net/bolforums/member.php?u=2039
That's an "interactive community of mental health professionals and graduate students discussing professional issues." I'm guessing you're cruising the forums there to find new ways for insanity defenses. How ever do you have time for that, LEF, writing/teaching criminal law, being a defense attorney, and martial arts?
Since you're "leaving LEF" (oh God, not another one of those
), I will leave you with ten reasons why I hate lawyers:
1) University of Texas finance professor Stephen
Magee has calculated that each U.S. lawyer drains the economy
of an average of $1 million a year in productivity.
2) Because the U.S. harbored 748,028 creatures of the bar as
of 1990, according to the American Bar Association.
3) Because if Professor Magee is right, those leeches now suck some three-quarters of a trillion dollars out of our economy annually.
4) Because there is no limit to the lies, deceit and character
assassination that can be rationalized by a lawyer under the
excuse of zealously representing a client’s interests.
5) Because when a lawyer achieves success, it usually means
that someone else got shafted.
6) Because most politicians come from the ranks of lawyers.
7) Because rampant litigation has given rise to de facto tyranny
as people hesitate to speak their minds or engage in innocent activities that may leave them vulnerable to a lawsuit.
8) Because lawyer’s professional ethics say nothing about
right and wrong, fairness and unfairness, justice and injustice
— only about striving to win.
9) Because the legal profession regards such amorality as a
lofty principle.
10) Because when New York’s CEO Club sponsored its
"Honest Lawyer Contest" last year, no attorneys qualified. Because it was a serious contest. Because they extended the contest deadline from July 1 to October 31, and still couldn’t find a winner!
In closing Attorney Kennedy, this site is for cops, by cops, and if you don't like that, you can go fuck yourself...and I'm sure some scumbag attorney like you will defend my right to say that legally.
