    Why are most Blacks Democrats?

    Excellent article. Great author.

THE POLITICS OF BLACKNESS: War hero returns, runs for office
BY BARBARA HOWARD Funny how we define heroes in the black community. Basketball players, football players, baseball players – anybody who can bounce, catch or throw a ball, and gets paid goo-gobs of money to do it, gets to be called a hero.

But heroes are people who are, by the very nature of the word, heroic, which denotes “great courage and strength,” “nobility of purpose,” “one who has risked or sacrificed his life” – a gallant man.

One such man is LTC Allen West. He doesn’t bounce a basketball or catch a football. He may never see his name up in lights in an arena or on the back of a jersey. But he is a real hero, one with over 20 years of service to his country. He just returned from Afghanistan, where he was an advisor to the Afghan army.

His website shows that “Col. West has been honored many times, including a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals (one with Valor), and a Valorous Unit Award.

He received his valor award as a captain in Desert Shield/Storm, was the U.S. Army ROTC instructor of the year in 1993, and was a Distinguished Honor Graduate III Corps at Fort Hood, Texas Air Assault School.”
Col. West wants to continue his service as the U.S. Congressman from Florida’s 22nd Congressional District. And yes, Allen West is black and a Republican – a member of “The Five Percent Club.”

Gallant, intelligent, well-read and articulate, Col. West has a master’s degree in political science and a Master of Military Arts and Sciences from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officer College in political theory and military history and operations.

“My 22 years of service in the U.S. Army have taught me that America is a country unlike any other, and that our way of life is worth protecting,” West said.

Now, that’s the way real heroes think.

“Education is the great equalizer,’’ he said. “With a good education, any child in America can live his dream. Col. West knows that for our children to live their dreams, they need to be safe.”

His platform states, “In Congress, I will put my experience to work for our national security and honor my oath to the U.S. Constitution by protecting our borders and enforcing our immigration laws. I will fight to lower taxes and reduce the size of federal government. I will be an advocate for policies that spur our economy and job creation, and will protect small business by cutting senseless regulations that cost jobs and increase overhead. And I will be a champion for reducing our dependence on foreign sources of oil, promoting energy independence while preserving our coastlines and farmland.”

Born and raised in Atlanta, Col. West moved to South Florida with his lovely wife (who has an MBA and a PhD) and two children who know that excelling is their way of life.

You can read more about Allen, join his team, contribute to his campaign or just write on his blog page by going to his website: www.allenwestforcongress.com.

Since we seem to be so hard up for heroes in the black community that we attach the word to anybody who gets his name up in lights, let’s get to know what a real hero is all about.

False heroes are like false prophets, and we don’t need any more than we already have. Let’s get this brother elected. It’s about time we look at the measure of the man (or woman) and send Allen West to Congress.

I’m so tired of hearing black folks talk about how the Republican Party doesn’t speak to them, doesn’t respond to their needs, etc., etc., etc.

Well, every time a black Republican runs for Congress, the Democratic Party sends out the black troops to assassinate him. Ask Michael Steele and Lynn Swann.

So there are no black Republicans in Congress because black folk would rather vote for a white Democrat than a black Republican. Then they turn around and complain about what they didn’t get for their vote.

There’s a black Republican running for Congress, and he’s a real hero. So, South Florida, now is the time to put up or shut up.

I hope he wins, and I hope Washington doesn't destroy him.

Just so everyone knows....the picture is of the author, not the candidate.

It is kind of ironic....since Lincoln was a Republican.

As a history major I am wondering why you think that is ironic. Read Lincoln's letters sometime.

As a political science minor I also wonder why blacks support Dems. The Dems give them more than the Republicans. I have often compared the current Democratic/Black American relationship as that of the slave and slave owner relationship. The owner provides a shit existance for the slave in return for labor. The modern day example is the Dems provide welfare for votes. The Republicans have put blacks in the highest political offices in the country thus far. As a conservative Republican/Libertarian, I believe that people can help themselves better than the government. Welfare = servitude and Free Market Economics = prosperity. Note that Dems always want to bring the rich down to the level of the poor in order to make everyone equal.

*On a side note, anyone wanting to call me a racist for this post had better have two things.

    1. The definition of a racist
    2. The facts to back themselves up.

I'm not black. Spoke with a firend who is and asked which way he votes. He's a middle of the road type, not very invovled with politix, family comes first. He said Democrat, and answered my question with that was the way his parents voted thru the post-WW2 unions. His dad was a WW2 vet was in a segregated unit......The Demos gave the most in the least time in the 40's-50's and early 60's.

But, the Demos of that era were of a different type. They were FDR, Harry S Truman, Adlai Stevenson, John Kennedy,...They placed the Nation before the Party. They served the National interests before they served the party.

The Marxists of my generation that spawned in Berkeley, Ann Arbor, with heroes such as Che Guevara, Angela Davis, Hanoi Jane, Geo Jackson, etc...those who place the PARTY before the Nation.. This was the campus "Free Speech Movement" the beginning of political correctness, and the socialist
"group speak". Another success oif the "Big Lie. " The fastest way to get the boot from today's "D" party is to question the party line.

I dont think the base of the Demo party is a race issue, although the divisions in our society are somethng the controllling Marxists and off-shore fund sources (China, Geo Soros) want. Agitprop is a term for profesional troublemakers from the Soviet COMINTERN of 1917. Today it's Sharpton & Jackson et.al that exploit. create, fabricate misery, unrest, polarize society, and profit from it. Why? Generate hate, envy, inequality, class warfare, the genesis of revolution, and the Marxist solution is overthrow and "Peoples Republic" i.e. Communiism. Read the history of Communism from several sources, you may find hisotry is repeating.

Those who remain minimally involved in politix, let ther unions tell them how to vote, allow the schools provide their children a "group" sense of ethics, values and low quality education, believe what they see on the TV, vote the way their parents did, do not question the why and how of what they see / hear.....well these are the sheep waiting the red wolves. Bread and circuses until it's time for the wolves to eat, accompanied by Nero's music. Remember those who know what's best for you.....

Black/white....I think we've gone beyond that, it's the ability to think and call out the liars.
Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same.-- Anonymous

Old People, like me, may not be around to witness the destruction of our Nation. The rest of you may not survive the collapse. We all have the sworn duty to prevent it.

The light of hope burns brighter than the fires of doom.

Just ironic, as ending slavery was a founding tenet of the Republican Party.

I know that Lincoln wasn't an "abolitionist," per se, but he was a man of his time. I'm sure he had many beliefs formed by what he saw growing up in Illinois that were challenged, changed, or reinforced by his time in office.

If Lincoln could have won the war without freeing the slaves he would have done so. His words not mine. It would take me a while to find the actual letter.

I know which letter you're speaking of, and it reflects one faction of the Republican Party. Some in the party felt it was enough to stop the expansion of slavery into any new states formed. Others were emphatic that only the complete end of slavery would suffice.

Both the Methodist and Baptist churches split over the issue of slavery, so it's no wonder that many "civilized" people had ambivalent feelings over whether the status quo should continue.

It's why I can understand one person's insistence that the Civil War was a State's Rights issue, while others are emphatic that is was to end slavery....it was both.
