Cuffing is hard to do if your not doing it for real, you can't use all the tools at your command, mace, taser, slamdunking the perp to the ground to gain advantage.

Exactly. I had a friend that wanted me to do something similar, I had to explain to them not without a floor mat.

I'd have voted for a nice closed fist to the temple. That's a real attention getter.

I hate it when a non-cop friend says "I bet you cant cuff me, one on one". I always want to produce a waiver that says I bet I can if he will release me from any broken bones or other serious injury sustained during the contest.

On a more serious note, I remembered an officer, years back, who was wrestling with his roommate, trying to handcuff him. He got one cuff on and was trying to get the other one on. Somehow he damaged his friends nerve (radius nerve, I think?) and the guy's thumb had no feeling for about a month.
    Be careful with that horseplay!

Normally I would have a hard time determining who is the bigger dumbass in that equation, but it's obvious it's the wannabe in the uniform for taking the bet. Harmless as it may seem, that's nothing than some overzealous wacker trying to show off to his friends or a piece of ass.

Playing into that game is a no-win.

Sure you can cuff your buddy -- if you go all out and do it for real. Of course, that means you're going to end up hurting your buddy... And maybe getting hurt yourself. (There's a reason we're all taught to stack the odds before arrest whenever possible!) No winner there.

So, since you don't want to hurt your buddy... You don't go all out. And he and the yahoos watching think that you can't do it. Still no winner.

Generally, I fall back on a line like "if I cuff you, I've gotta take you in" or "our GOs don't let me play around" or just plain "It'd be unprofessional of me to play games like that."

Or, if she's cute, I tell her I left my fur lined cuffs at home!

If he was in our post he would brought in and talked to about this incident, this is very unprofessional and would most likely resualt in a suspention, and removal of the video. We have a Code of Conduct that everyone must sign, and this goes against that code.

Good way to get into trouble.... Would make a great sensational story line for the local media if a citz filmed it and called the cops over it thinking it was real...

I've had friends and family tell me that I can't cuff them.

I tell them I could, but I don't want to be held responsible for any injuries that would happen as a result.

This thread needs to be moved to the LEO secure section to explain what would really happen in this situation.
