Red LED Replacement Dome Light
I am trying to find a red LED replacement dome light for my squad car, but I am not sure where to find one. I just want something that replaces the existing bulb without having to do any soldering.

Has to be LED? I don't know of anyone that sells a slip in without rewiring the light.
K-9, did you think about that the last time you were sitting in your car doing your nails? And Shepards we shall be,

So we shall flow a river forth to Thee

Better yet DONT use the light at all!!! Even a red ligt over you will illuminate you to a degree. It will also diminish your night vision to a point, not as bad as the white, but it will diminish it some. Get an led ligt that plugs into your usb port of your laptop and use that. If you can get red bulbes for them, or paint them even better. At least that light wont be over the top of you.

Am I the only cop who uses the straight white-light in my patrol car dome light? I can't do the tinted ones...not enought light to see what I'm writing and, because of the way our tickets are printed, you can't see any of the printed lines or words so your writing is all cockeyed and f-ed up. Since I'm in a medium-sized city, most of my night-time stops end up under some type of street light or lighted business parking lot.

Not sure if you have an AutoZone where you are at but they have them. They come in a two pack and are around $15. I've got one in my car and absolutely love it. The only other place I could think of to check would be a truck stop. Back in the day before they had all of those fancy replacement bulbs I just used heat resistant red paint and painted the inside of my dome light cover. It worked really good but not as good as my LED bulb.
If you don't have AutoZone in your area you can probably get it from their website at www.autozone.com"When you stop learning, you deny yourself the opportunity to grow." ~TDSA Tulsa~

I buy them all the time on ebay from two or three different suppliers.
They usually cost about $2 each, instead of the assraping you pay for them at the parts store.
Search on ebay for LED bulb and whatever bulb number you need. Someone will have them.
I like using LED's rather than the painted lights, because LED is pure light - that is it is all one wavelength. It won't harm your night vision as much as filtered light, and won't generate a lot of heat.I'm your huckleberry...

Red LED
I did some serious snooping today and it looks like an 8 LED Super High Flux might work out okay provided that it fits in the housing.

Some of our squads have both the big white light, and a smaller red light embedded in the ceiling (is it called ceiling in a car? lol) right above the driver's seat
