Rosetta Stone Language software
Has anyone used the Rosetta Stone CDs to learn another language and if so what are your thoughts?
I am considering purchasing the Spanish edition.

I, too, have been thinking about trying Rosetta Stone's spanish edition.
A buddy of mine has used them for arabic while in the Army and says he did learn a lot, but staying focused was his only problem since nobody is there to get on you if you're slacking (obviously).
Anybody have any first hand experience?Calm Like A Bomb...

I seen the commercials on TV...........it looks really easy. Sorry that all I have to offer.

DVD drive? Excellent! I can use it in the patrol car when things are slow and I still want to be in the field.
How much?

I've done a little of the Spanish and a little Farsi. How it works is, instead of drilling vocabulary and grammatical forms (past, present, future, etc) through mindless repetition (see high school spanish), they show you 4 pictures on the screen. For example, the sentence will say, "El caballo esta saltando." There will be 4 pics on the screen: One of a gay-looking dude running on the beach, one of a woman cooking dinner, one of a horse jumping over a puddle and one of a plane flying in the air. You choose which one fits the sentence (answer: it's the horse). Eventually, you're supposed to learn that the noun caballo means "horse" and the verb saltando means "jumping." Their figuring that, with enough training, you'll learn the tedious articles (a, an, the, etc) without specific training (in the above example: you should eventually learn that El means "the" and esta means "is.") MUCH easier for me to do the spanish since I'm already semi-fluent...the farsi was pretty tough, but that's a tough language in the first place. For my birthday in February, I'm going to buy the Spanish 2 and 3 off ebay...probably around $250-350. If it's good and I use it quickly, I'll probably turn around and sell it to someone on here.

The only thing that puts me off is the expense. Other than that, I think it is an awesome program.

$ 250-350?

Maybe we should round up some illegals and have them teach us LEF Spanish 101.

I bought Onlingo, expense isn't all that much and they send a lesson a month and you get charged by the lesson. It's not too bad and I think it is cheaper than the Rosetta Stone series. It has different chapters per lesson.
My dad, I miss him every day.

Can't speak for Rosetta, but I do recommend NOT getting Before You Know It software for other languages. They're crap.
