Forty-two Years Ago...
today, 31 Jan 1966, I started my career with the CHP. It was our first day in the old Academy on Meadowview Road in Sacramento, CA and lasted sixteen weeks. I have never had a day of regret over my decision for a full and anjoyable life's dedication.
I hope and pray that all of you enjoy a career as happy and successful as I enjoyed.
Be safe and be certain to go home at the end of your day!

Good God, Papa bear. I was only 18 months old when you started CHP. Sounds like you had a fulfilling career.

I was trying to avoid the draft, and two years. I joined the AF for four. I was real smart then.

Seriously, from one 'bear' to another, a life of service such as you have led, is worthy of being revered highly. Congratulations on 'making it', and happy anniversary. (old timer).

Happy anniversary, PapaBear!

Good Golly, Congrats on the anniversary.
The only regret I have becoming a Kansas State Trooper is that I didn't sign up when I was 21 instead of 30. If I started before I was 25 I could retire in 10 months, but I have to work at least 5 1/2 years.
Papa Bear it is good to hear the positive comments about a career that you enjoyed.

Thanks for the kind words gang. I should point out that I had previously attended the Orange County (CA) Peace Officer's Academy in October 1963 and spent three years on the Seal Beach (CA) PD. A terrific start to my career.
To you "YOUNGSTERS" I offer this advice: Take one day at a time; enjoy each fleeting moment; love your family; cover your backside; and, sleep well at night with the understanding you have done all that you can do and represented your agency in the most professional manner.
God Bless all of you in your travels and thanks you for taking the torch.Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence.
