Favorite thought-provoking song?
What's your favorite thought-provoking song?
Lewisipso and Maclean introduced me to the song "Don't Blink"--it's probably my favorite thought-provoking song right now:

A moving meditation on the meaning of life (and death), by the same singer who brought us "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy".

It's gotta be a song about a little guy who lived in a little house,
Cold,Cold Ground by Tom Waits

Very powerful, especially for LEO if you have seen some kids lose their lives.

"You Save Me" by Kenny Chesney
Every now and then I get a little lost
My strings all get tangled, my wires all get crossed
Every now and then I'm right up on the edge
Dangling my toes out over the ledge
I just thank God you're here
'Cause when I'm a bullet shot out of a gun
'Cause when I'm a firecracker comin' undone
Or when I'm a fugitive ready to run, all wild-eyed and crazy
No matter where my reckless soul takes me
Baby you save me
It's hard lovin' a man that's got a gypsy soul
I don't know how you do it, I'm not sure how you know
The perfect thing to say to save me from myself
You're the angel that believes in me like nobody else
And I thank God you do
'Cause when I'm a bullet shot out of a gun
When I'm a firecracker coming undone
When I'm a fugitive ready to run, all wild-eyed and crazy
No matter where my reckless soul takes me
Baby you save me
I know I don't tell you nearly enough
That I couldn't live one day without your love
When I'm a ship tossed around on the waves
Up on a highwire that's ready to break
When I've had just about all I can take
Baby you, baby you save me
When I'm a bullet shot out of a gun
When I'm a firecracker coming undone
When I'm a fugitive ready to run, all wild-eyed and crazy
No matter where my reckless soul takes me
Baby you save me

Artist's like Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, and Craig Morgan top my list as favorites. However when it comes down to "the song" The Dance by Garth Brooks will always be on top.
Not a big fan of The Karate Kid movies but here's the song for my wife and I.

I have many, many thought provoking songs. This is only one of them, and in no way is the most disturbing.

With legitimate curiosity what is the provoking thought for that song? Edit: Sorry you got two in before I posted.

To put it simply, all music provokes thought for me, except for rap that is.
Most of the songs out there I can relate to in one way or another.
This song was released about the same time we decided to seperate, and it fits my situation very well. Almost scarey how well it fits.

Wow, these songs are awesome! Thanks!
I usually avoid listening to songs because they tend to stick in my head and play over and over again, but these are so deep it's worth it.

Arlington
by Trace Adkins
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WB76cYS8Ehw
I never thought that this is where I'd settle down
I thought I'd die an old man back in my hometown
They gave me this plot of land,me and some other men, for a job well done
There's a big white house sits on a hill just up the road
The man inside he cried the day they brought me home
The folded up a flag and told my mom and dad
'We're pround of your son'
And I'm proud to be on this paecful piece of property
I'm on scared ground and I'm in the best of company
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done
I can rest in peace, I'm one of the chosen ones, I made it to Arlington
I remember that my daddy brought me here when I was eight
We searched all day to find out where my granddad lay
And when we finally found that cross
He said, 'son this is what it cost to keep us free'
Now here I am a thousand stones away from him
He recongized me on the first day I came in
And it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels and saluted me
I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property
I'm on scared ground and in the best of company
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done
I can rest in peace I'm one of the chosen ones, I made it to Arlington
And every time I hear twenty-one guns
I know they brought another hero home to us
We're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done
We can rest in peace, 'cause we were the chosen ones
We made it to Arlington, yea, dust to dust
Don't cry for us, we made it to ArlingtonThe views expressed in the above post are the sole opinion of the author and do not reflect any official position by the author's employer and/or municipality.

There are several Stan Rogers songs that shake me to the bone....
Delivery Delayed
How early is "Beginning"? From when is there a soul?
Do we discover living, or, somehow, are we told?
In sudden pain, in empty cold, in blinding light of day
We're given breath, and it takes our breath away.
How cruel to be unformed fancy, the way in which we come -
Over-whelmed by feeling and sudden loss of love
And what price dark confining pain, (the hardest to forgive)
When all at once, we're called upon to live.
By a giant hand we're taken from the shelter of the womb
That dreaded first horizon, the endless empty room
Where communion is lost forever, when a heart first beats alone
Still, it remembers, no matter how its grown.
We grow, but grow apart -
We live, but more alone -
The more to see, the more to see,
To cry aloud that we are free
To hide our ancient fear of being alone.
And how we live in darkness, embracing spiteful cold
Refusing any answers, for no man can be told
That delivery is delayed until at last we're made aware
And first reach for love, to find 'twas always there.
Lies
At last the kids are gone now for the day.
She reaches for the coffee as the school bus pulls away.
Another day to tend the hous and plan
For Friday at the Legion when she's dancing with her man.
Sure was a bitter winter but Friday will be fine,
And maybe last year's Easter dress will serve her one more time.
She'd pass for twenty-nine but for her eyes.
But winter lines are telling wicked lies.
All lies.
All those lines are telling wicked lies.
Lies all lies.
Too many lines there in that face;
Too many to erase or disguise;
They must be telling lies.
Is this the face that won for her the man
Whose amazed and clumsy fingers put that ring upon her hand?
No need to search that mirror for the years.
The menace in their message shouts across the blur of tears.
So this is Beauty's finish. Like Rodin's "Belle Heauimiere",
The pretty maiden trapped inside the ranch wife's toil and care.
Well, after seven kids, that's no surprise,
But why cannot her mirror tell her lies.
All lies.
All those lines are telling wicked lies.
Lies all lies.
Too many lines there in that face;
Too many to erase or disguise;
They must be telling lies.
Then she shakes off the bitter web she wove,
And turns to set the mirror, gently, face down by the stove.
She gathers up her apron in her hand,
Pours a cup of coffee, dripps Carnation from the can,
And thinks ahead to Friday, 'cause Friday will be fine!
She'll look up in that weathered face that loves her's, line for line,
To see that maiden shining in his eyes
And laugh at how her mirror tells her lies.
All lies.
All those lines are telling wicked lies.
Lies all lies.
Too many lines there in that face;
Too many to erase or disguise;
They must be telling lies.Molly Weasley makes Chuck Norris eat his vegetables.

Now I got that feeling once again.
I cant explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.Wise men stand behind me, brave men stand beside me, but only fools stand against me.
The force that propels you to prevail when you are put to a test of survival will be a mindset that refuses to accept nothing but winning.
Too often, we lose sight of life's simple pleasures. Remember, when someone annoys you it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, BUT, it only takes 4 muscles to reach out and bitch slap that motherf*cker upside the head.

Drivin’ through town just my boy and me
With a “Happy Meal” in his booster seat
Knowin’ that he couldn’t have the toy ‘til his nuggets were gone.
A green traffic light turned straight to red
I hit my brakes and mumbled under my breath.
His fries went a flyin’, and his orange drink covered his lap
Well, then my four year old said a four letter word
It started with “S” and I was concerned
So I said, “Son, now where’d you learn to talk like that?”
Chorus:
He said, I’ve been watching you, dad ain’t that cool?
I’m your buckaroo, I wanna be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
We got cowboy boots and camo pants
Yeah, we’re just alike, hey, ain’t we dad
I want to do everything you do.
So I’ve been watching you.
We got back home and I went to the barn
I bowed my head and I prayed real hard
Said, “Lord, please help me help my stupid self.”
Just this side of bedtime later that night
Turnin’ on my son’s Scooby-doo nightlight.
He crawled out of bed and he got down on his knees.
He closed his little eyes, folded his little hands
Spoke to God like he was talkin’ to a friend.
And I said, “Son, now where’d you learn to pray like that?”
Chorus:
He said, I’ve been watching you, dad ain’t that cool?
I’m your buckaroo; I want to be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
We like fixin’ things and holding moma’s hand
Yeah, we’re just alike, hey, ain’t we dad.
I want to do everything you do; so I’ve been watching you.
With tears in my eyes I wrapped him in a hug.
Said, “My little bear is growin’ up.”
And he said, “But when I’m big I’ll still know what to do.”
Chorus:
‘cause I’ve been watching you, dad ain’t that cool?
I’m your buckaroo; I want to be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
By then I’ll be strong as superman
We’ll be just alike, hey, won’t we dad
When I can do everything you do.
‘cause I’ve been watchin’ you.
hey yeah
