I think I've seen him before. Does he also work at a 7-11?

Another "cultural diversity", "politically correct" thingy.
I would think it wouldn't fly at my department either, but . . . you just never know.

My thoughts too, Countybear. By reading this officers sleeve patch it appears that he is employed by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Dept. I think I have seen this picture before, too.
Only in California.
This officer belongs to the Sikh religion, predominately in India, if I am not mistaken. The Sikh's that I have had dealings with are a very gentle law abiding people and not of those morons that we are fighting in the middle east.

Sikh officers are allowed to wear their turban instead of conventional police headgear. I would have to say, having had to wear a "custodian" helmet, it is undoubtably the more comfortable option.
I have had many dealings with the sikh community and have always found them to be an example to other "minority" groups.
Able to integrate with the community but still able to hold onto their own cultural identity.
(Bloody hell, sound like I've just been on a diversity course doesn't it)
As a side note, their is a specific legal exemtion within UK motorcycle legislation that allows a member of the sikh religion to wear a turban rather than a type approved crash helmet.
Another piece of useless information for you all!the sole advantage of power is that you can do more good.

When I was in the Army in the late 80's, they were allowed to wear their turbans and grow the beard, but that got changed to them not being allowed to do that anymore. I have dealt with a number of Sikh's over the years and I have yet to meet one who was anything but cooperative and polite. I dont know if that is a religious thing or the culture, but that has been the case with my dealings with them.
