    Are you making enough salary?

With gas prices well over 3 bucks a gallon and expected to reach 4 dollars this year; and with the price of food and other necessities sky rocketing, are you being paid enough salary to keep up with the costs of living?

To put it in perspective, when I started driving, (A loooong time ago!) gas was .35 a gallon. I was making $1.05 an hour, driving a big-ass Pontiac that got 12 miles a gallon. A gallon of gas cost approximately 1/3 of my hourly pay. Now, I make substancially more, so if the price of gas goes up to over $10 or $15 a gallon, it'll make a BIG impact. I still think we're paying too much, though.

The cost of living definitely is hitting us. Between health care and gas related inflation I've been regressing in net pay the last few years.

Most definitely. With inflation, I am actually making less each year. We were told we will be lucky if we get a 3% cost of living increase this year, much less a raise.

Well, I dont think that it will break the bank, but we have to make some changes around the home so we wont break the bank.

We have to eat out less, go places less, in general be more energy effiencent etc. When it comes to groceries ext. it is hard because some things you have to have like Whole Milk for my boy, and prices on some of those things have gone through the roof.

We are slated to receive a 10% raise this year and my wife just recently obtained a job as a dispatcher so we are doing ok for now.

We usually get a very small cost of living increase every year. I also made Corporal so that helps as well, been a month, but still haven't seen my raise...........lol.

Luckily I've been getting a COLA raise about every 2 or 3 months, so that's nice. I'm only 26 and i remember when gas was 99 cents/gallon.

Isn't it interesting how when you get a new raise it takes payroll several paychecks to get it "processed" but if you get demoted that money's gone before you were even notified?

    Well put.

I don't spend too much in gas for myself. When I'm home, work is a 5 minute drive, and I damn near everything I need is available locally.

When I'm working, work pays for gas... I'd bet that I spend less than $15/week in gas for me even when I'm home. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I spend probably 15 days a month on average in a hotel room.

We are in negotiations right now. Hopefully we get a big jump. Right now I work the road 46 hours a week, teach about 30 hours a month, and I am taking a PB&J to work for lunch.

500 fights, that's the number I figured when I was a kid. 500 street fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate tough guy. You need them for experience. To develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then, after, you realize that's what you are.

Okay, I was gonna complain that they are predicting $4.00 a gallon within the next month - I'll be quiet.

I'm always shocked to see what I really make when I don't have the the extra night-shift and training premium, or OT.
