Septic Tank Help
Well I was doing my normal Saturday yard work and really enjoying my new Stihl brush cutter when I noticed the ground in my back yard was really wet and I was sinking down about and inch or so. Outside of the fence it is even worse. As I clear the under growth I can smell the not so sweet smell
. It appears that my fill lines from my septic tank are starting to fail. Has anyone ever had this problem? What kind of fixes do you recommend? How much $$$ am I looking at? The wife will be contacting the insurance company on Monday to see about making a claim if it is big time money. I will post some pics tomorrow to give everyone an idea of what I got now. Don't worry it is just water as of right now. I'm thinking that some natural springs in my area are over loading the fill lines. All the houses in my area have problems with the springs
.

It's not uncommon for people to need to have a septic tank pumped out on occasion. Especially if you're taking lots of baths, doing lots of laundry, etc. It's not hard to add more in faster than it can be broken down...
On top of that, you do have drain pipes to deal with. Which do get disturbed various ways, just like any underground pipe.
I'd suggest starting by having someone come out and pump and check the septic tank. They'll likely be able to advise you more about how much of a problem you've got.
That part's likely to be reasonably inexpensive. Repairs? Depends on how much digging, whether they've got to repeat perk tests, etc. Could easily get pretty spendy...Voting against incumbents until we get a Congress that does its job.

The problem is I have a new mom at home that washes every damn thing in sight. A coworker and I just did a little plumbing to route the washing machine gray water through the septic tank since the fill lines for the washer were over loaded. I still think it is the natural springs playing hell with the fill lines though.

My ex was a licensed plumbing contractor so if it is the fill lines you're probably looking at anywhere between $2-5,000 depending on size of house, bathrooms etc., to have it re-done. My husband and my neighbor did his for about $1000 bucks, 2,bath washer, kitchen, etc., but they rented the backhoe and did all the work themselves. I think that only needs to be done like once every 20 yrs or so, so I doubt it would be covered by insurance, unless they will go for the natural springs problem.

I had the same exact problem when i was married to my ex.
I freaked out on the company that installed the septic tank. They came out, and told me to have it pumped out, that it was full.
I never dreamed it would fill so quick, but it did.
When the ground is wet like it was that year, the water didnt have anywhere to go, but up, and out.
If i am correct, i think it was only like around a couple hundred dollars for the company to pump out the tank, and replant a couple pine trees, that died.
