CHICAGO (AP) -- Mark DeRosa figured it was going to be one of those days. The Colorado Rockies jumped out to an early 8-0 lead and seemed to be taking batting practice against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
"Early on we were like, 'It's going to be rough,' but the way the wind was blowing you never know. They got some runs on fly balls to left field as well. ... We just happened to get hot at the right time."DeRosa's two-run homer -- Chicago's fourth of the game -- capped a six-run seventh inning as the Cubs rallied for a 10-9 victory Friday, their fifth straight win."I mean, unbelievable," DeRosa said. "It was pretty special. I mean it was pretty ugly there early."Henry Blanco hit a two-run homer in the seventh -- his first since 2006 -- and Jim Edmonds, who'd earlier hit his first homer as a Cub, delivered a two-run double in the rally. With the wind blowing out at 15 mph, there were seven total home runs, and Jeff Baker hit a team-record four doubles for the Rockies.Edmonds, who was struggling when he was released by the Padres earlier this season, entered Friday batting .167. And he's still hearing it from some of the fans in the center field bleachers because of his many years with the rival Cardinals. He also knows that manager Lou Piniella would like him to start hitting. So would he, and maybe his 3-for-4 day that raised him to .186 will be help."I'm struggling and I need to pick it up, that's no secret," Edmonds said. "I'm trying to keep my head above water and try to figure out what's wrong. Guys here have been positive."The Cubs were down 8-0 in the fourth inning and still trailing 9-1 headed into the bottom of the sixth before back-to-back homers by Kosuke Fukudome and Edmonds off Rockies starter Aaron Cook got them going.Earlier, Todd Helton, Chris Iannetta and Ryan Spilborghs homered for the Rockies, but the defending NL champs couldn't hold on and got their fifth straight loss."Guys came out and did their job on offense, pitchers just didn't take care -- me especially -- of shutting the door," Cook said. "You never think you'll lose a game when you're up 9-1, but you still have to go out there and play 27 outs and we just didn't finish the game today."Scott Eyre (2-0) got the win by getting the final out of the seventh inning. Kerry Wood pitched the ninth for his 13th save in 17 chances.Blanco's first homer since Sept. 22, 2006, pulled the Cubs closer in the seventh. Cook went 6 1/3 innings, allowing 10 hits and leaving after giving up a single to Micah Hoffpauir.Blanco and Hoffpauir entered the game in a sixth-inning double switch and were pivotal in the rally.Manuel Corpas gave up a single to Fukudome before Edmonds' made it 9-8 with his double. DeRosa then homered to left-center, his fifth of the season, and sent the crowd of 39,686 into a frenzy."Normal day that ball probably doesn't go out," DeRosa acknowledged."When DeRosa's ball went out of the ballpark, that's the loudest this place has been all year," Piniella said. "By far. It was almost deafening."Cubs starter Ted Lilly gave up eight hits and seven runs in three innings in his shortest outing of the season. Outscored 14-4 in the first inning of their previous six games, the Rockies took a 4-0 lead with Helton's three-run homer the big hit.Baker, who entered the game in an 0-for-13 slump that had dropped his average to .188, had doubles in the first, third, fifth and seventh innings to tie an NL record."Obviously it was good personally, but we had another bad loss and we can't continue to let it happen if we want to get to where we want to be," Baker said.Edmonds and left fielder Alfonso Soriano appeared to have some confusion over who would take Garrett Atkins' high fly in the third, and Edmonds dropped it for a two-base error. One out later, Iannetta homered for a 6-0 cushion.Baker hit his second double and scored on Omar Quintanilla's RBI single through the box for a 7-0 lead in the third.Spilborghs homered off Jon Lieber in the fourth. Quintanilla had another RBI single to score Baker in the fifth.DeRosa had a bases-loaded sacrifice fly for the Cubs in the fourth.Game notes
Edmonds began the season with San Diego, was cut and joined the Cubs on May 15. ... Helton's first four homers were all solo and all came at Coors Field. ... Cubs starters Aramis Ramirez and Ryan Theriot were out of the starting lineup for rest.

Umm...they have disappointed me my whole life. Winning close one run games and games like this make me think this might be the year.

I still think the pitching is not going to hold up. They'll need to make a trade for a strong pitcher around the deadline imho...
