There has been a story circulating in the area around Yonah mountain and the valley for a hundred or more years. They claim Nacoochee, a beautiful Cherokee Indian princess, jumped to her death off Yonah mountain because the elders forbid her to wed her warrior lover Saute because he was a member of the Chickasaw tribe, who at the time were their bitter enemies.
Some of the mountainers will probably tie this girls accidental fall with the old Nacoochee legend.
