    Officer's Safety: RANT

Here are the stats for the first five months of 2007 and 2008 for comparison.

    2007

    *By Month:
    January: 11
    February: 14
    March: 18
    April: 19
    May: 24

    2008

    *By Month:
    January: 14
    February: 11
    March: 4
    April: 3
    May: 9

Although 2008 is running significantly less than 2007, it appears to me that there are an inordinate number of LEO deaths caused by traffic accidents; and, a number of them are totally preventable.

Just a reminder: if you are tired, take a break; if you are responding to a call for assistance, drive accordingly - if you don't get there you cannot help; if the weather is dangerous, pull over and wait for things to clear.

Please, be careful and go home to your families at the end of your shift.

    A good reminder to all.

It doesn't rain here often, and seldom a downpour, but I am always shocked by people zooming past me at 60+ when there is zero visibility during a heavy rain.

or fog. Up here in the Central Valley of California we get a lot of fog in the winter from all the rivers we have here. It can be less than 200 ft of visibility and still people will insist on dong the speed limit as if it was a normal clear day.

Accident waiting for a place to happen, and sometimes does.

Choose The Right. When you're doing whats right, then you have nothing to worry about.
