Disaster Relief
I live in the city, and in our disasters, something severe and drastic has to happen, so when I see our fellow Americans fleeing their homes because of river flooding, or forest fires, my heart goes out, and my wallet opens up.
The two best organizations I have encountered have been:

http://www.redcross.org/services/disaster/
At every emergency I have to respond to, they are always there, on scene with hot food and drinks for the first responders and rescuees. It doesnt matter the hour of the day or nite. These volunteers get a call, jump out of bed and rush to the scene and give of themselves to others in need.
These organizations exists on the kindness of strangers, that make the American people an interwoven fabric of compassion. I donated 20 dollars to each organization and put them in my favorites folder for quick reference. They will accept any donation. My son wanted to donate some of his savings, and I had made a donation on his behalf (instead of taking his money, I increased his chores for a week).
Take this thread for what its worth to you.
God Bless.

I'm all for them, I was a disaster coordinator for the red cross but my uncle hated them from when he was in WW2 they were selling coffee and donuts to the troops instead of giving them away.
