Any Ideas for a Birthday Present?
Hi

Paul will be home on Monday and his birthday is in July. He will be on his umpteenth deployment to Iraq the middle of August and I would like to get him a birthday present (from of course are wonderful suppliers here) that he could use in Iraq.
I am not big into gadgets but he is. Do you guys have any ideas as to what I could get him? He has his issued gear of course but I would like to get him things that make his life easier over there and he LOVES gear.
I will be sending him a care package just about weekly with fun little things so what I am looking for really is gear or gadgets.
Thanks for any help you can give and Shoestring, if you have any suggestions fire away!

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion

*I will be good, I will be good, I will be good!*
But I'm thinking of something that starts with the word 'pocket' and it's DEFINITELY something he'd be missing while on deployment!

I'll ask some of my buddies who've been over there what kind of cool shit they would've liked to have whilst deployed.
What about some sort of manual coffee bean grinder? I was looking through the Sharper Image the other day and saw some hand-crank coffee bean grinder that looked like it would be good to take on a trip/deployment. I wasn't in the military because I'm a puss, but I would think there would be a shortage of good coffee if you're in the middle of the desert. Just a thought.

He does really like coffee... and actually his thing he does since he got off of chew is to chew an actual coffee bean *yuk*
I will look into that... hopefully it's not too big in size
Thanks for asking your buddies too.. that would be great! They will be doing a police patrol push over there along with comabat stuff -- which is why I am asking my fellow guys here.http://www.allpoetry.com/Grunts%20Girl

How about a rugged watch?
Somebody Please, what the hell is that smell?
"The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."
The views, opinions, stupid off the cuff comments, mouthy, obnoxious, thoughtless, etc etc etc are not always or even some of the time the belief of my department, so bugger off!

that is a good idea... his has done 3 tours now and is shitting the bed...
he would want one with a compass on it though.
right now he has gorrilla glued a compass on his.
one that would also NOT give away his position.. like no glow in the dark things, I know he doesn't like thosehttp://www.allpoetry.com/Grunts%20Girl

In addition to lots of good loving while at home, how about one of those personal cooling systems he can bring back with him, so hot and dry where they are any little bit of coolness can help. Not sure how practical this would be, but worth a mention.
Search of Personal Cooling system brings back a good variety of products:
